Hey everyone, lets just get some background info here as I'm new to these forums. I play Warmachine, and I'm soon to get a small Hordes army to play as well. These will be the first miniature games I've ever played. I love playing them, and I love collecting minis.
I want to get into Warhammer Fantasy mostly because of the models, but I still want to have a great time playing. I love the Bretonnia models and the midevil time period they're from is arguably my favorite historical peroid.
So, long story short, should I get into Bret even though they're not the best army and they're outdated, or should I wait for a new codex...and hopefully new plastics to come out for these guys....is there even any hope for a new codex to come out in the forseeable future?
Yes, they are a beautiful, beautiful army if you're innto the historical side of things (which I am) and doing a quasi-historical force with plenty of peasants and a few dashing units of knights looks awesome on the battlefield. The book might not be the strongest around, but it certainly isn't the easiest to beat.
You're right, miniature wise, they're 100% my favorite models in the WHFB range, and rule wise... well I'm sure I can find a way to make them competitive.
Do you happen to know if a new codex is comming out anytime soon? Or has GW basically dropped the army?
Thanks for the help
They aren't too old, by no means are they"dropped". You'll have a while before a new book yet though.
Also...I couldn't find a better place to post this and didn't want to start a new topic, so what materials do I need to play, like dice and stuff?
I have plenty of d6's and measuring tapes and stuff like that, but are there any special materials I need?
To be honest that's pretty much it. If you want a trebuchet, sorry, an if slipped in there, you want a trebuchet so you'll want a small blast template, but you can pick up a template set pretty cheap.
The only other thing you'll want is movement trays, but again, these are fairly cheap and can be made from scratch even cheaper.
Once again, thanks for all the great help!
As for the new ARMY BOOK (this isn't 40k) it will be a while yet as there are still armies that are in more need of it, Skaven are next and Beasts of Chaos rumoured after that and I suspect Tomb Kings will come before Brets. Don't let that put you off as the current book is still very workable.
As Artificially Enhanced said as well as D6's, measuring tapes and movement trays you'll want set of templates, a scatter dice (arrows and hit), artillery dice (2,4,6,8,10,misfire), the rulebook and brets army book.
BEN DIESEL FTW!!!
