I was looking at maybe getting a few Bretonnians for conversions and an army down the line. However, I was curious as to how the sprues for the units come. Do these come with a prestamped heraldry on the flags and shields or do they come blank with enough room for you to paint your own?
Any help would be much appreciated
It sorta depends, the men at arms come with bare shields and flags and a decal sheet to add heraldry on it, same with the knights kit.
Some banners however come with it's own imagery, like the questing knights banner. If you wanna change that, you're going to have to shave/grind off the imagery.
edit: 3900th post
Men At Arms - Shields and Banners blank.
Knights of the Realm/Errant - Shields and Banners blank.
Questing Knights - Banner is sculpted.
Grail Knights - Shields and Banner sculpted.
Pegasus Knights - Shields blank.
Grail Pilgrims - Shields sculpted.
I think that covers most if not all. Good luck!
Wow, thank you both for the speedy and thorough responses.
My idea was to use some Bretonnian units and heroes and then Chaos pimp them for my corrupted Bretonnian knight WoC army. I'm looking towards coming up with a herald for the warhost and was going to then try slapping it on one of those wavey flags. I also may buy some of the men-at-arms, dust them up and put some spikes on and spread them throughout the marauder units.
Thank you both for the break down of how the sprues come. This'll help alot as I try and find a heraldry and a place to stick it.
That could pose a problem!
My idea was to paint them up and maybe dry brush on some hard years of wear and tear so they look a bit rough around the edges, bent up shields and torn (somehow scuplted...?) clothing; maybe also a marauder with a Bretonnian cap on. They wouldn't make up an entire unit, but you may see one or two in this unit or that. Mostly to resemble the few survivors that came with the corrupt knight this far and are still hanging on. I was going to try this with other units as well but the others do some drastically different and I would hate to cause any confusion.
My current issues right now (made tenfold so because I can't actually make a decision on my own) are; to use the model of a WoC or Bret as my lord, to come up with a name for this warband, finalize a colour scheme and almost most importantly to come up with a heraldry that's easy enough to recreate on different standards but that's not too lame. Not sure how I'm going to manage this, but your help thus far has been appreciated!
I hope I haven't offended any damsels by posting such heresy as turning hard working men-at-arms and peasants along with their knightly masters into chaos mutants, but it does involve Bretonnia so I thought it'd be a good place to start!
