in a recent game i fielded a massive unit of 30 peasant archers however i was wondering what a good unit size is to deploy them in as skirmishers? units of ten? to make them more flexible? or huge units of 30 to throw out huge amounts of arrows a turn
The way i see it, this unit of skirmishers is a really nice bonus to most lists
theyre cheap, yet they can attract attention, and theyre quite maneuverable so can protect whatever weak flank you have
sskirmish makes them a bit survivable and their bows make them a threat to anything without armour..
If i look at these adavantages, the only reasons to make a unit bigger would be 'extra survivablility' and 'extra firepower' for a str 3 archer unit.
Sounds great, but its not as great as it looks for a skirmishers unit. For the same points you could be buying high class lance formations.
My oppinion is 10-15 skirmishers, any more points in this unit would be better spent elsewhere
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
I went through a period of useing 15 skirmished archers with a damsel. were a usefull little unit that kept a weak char resonably safe.
but I now generally go for ranked archers just for a few exstra shots (by byeing more archers).
