In reading some of the rumors, I am frankly mourning the loss of my entire Bretonnian army...
Charges - With randomizing charge distances we have lost our greatest weapon - a devastating charge with a charge distance longer than nearly all of our foes. If this holds true, this will destroy our army.
Ranks - Sure, we have cheap M @As to field big blocks of infantry, but let's be honest, these guys are fairly weak and are useful only in a flank support role - not a main role. They will get mowed down pretty quick. Hopefully, they can hold for a turn while the knights charge the flanks. Our archers may be now able to shoot in two ranks, but normally they are brought to the field as skirmishers anyway - but, skirmishers are supposedly likely to get nerfed...
Positives - Well, if you can call it that...
Range Guessing - No range guessing? OK, I guess I can bring my trebuchet a bit more often.
Characters - The point limit may help, since we don't have the greatest characters and the limit could deny the opponent their uber characters.
Anyone else have any thoughts on positives or negatives? I fear that without a major re-do of our book (which may be a long way off...) we are doomed. But, if we did get re-worked a solid block of awesome foot knights would be great (and GW could make a little $ -as that always seems to be their motivation) However, I think I have to retire the king's army for my WoC, which by all accounts, may have gotten much stronger with the rumoured rules.
as you say, brets will be losing on alot of fronts, mostly because we dont seem to gain from all those 'infantry buffs'
but i also think we gain an advantage that only the brets get, that comes with the lance formation
rumour has it flank charges only negate ranks when the flank charger has a rank bonus itself.
While everyone loses their ability to negate ranks through by flankchargng with cav, Brets still will have the ability to buy ranks for the cavalry units and still be able to negate ranks with our cavalry
6 strong Errants or Realm Knights will be just as good as in 7th, but only iif you manage to flank charge... So the drawback is that we will have to be more skilled in the maneuver phase then ever before
im sort of expecting a massive update for this army in that pdf people whisper about... and i want the Sacraments of the Lady to be available again... it would change the bret infantry army into something quite awesome!

Yes - our magic phase has been dreary for some time. I am greatly looking forward to a good re-write of our book to give us a better magic phase, stronger troop type to hold their own in combat, a few more characters to choose from (although for the points, I think the Green Knight is one of the best characters in the game!) and maybe a dragon!
Also, your note is right - we may be forced to run a MSU knight unit game all the time. One real drawback is we have few troops that don't need help when involved in a prolonged combat.
I think Bretonnia is going to be weak until their new army book comes out. Maybe the new Ogre Kingdoms of Warhammer, but what do I know. This whole, remove casualties from the front, and, 2nd rank gets to attack, I believe, is going to hurt us the most because even after we kill everyone in the front rank they still get 10+ attacks or so back on us... sort of a massive load of crap if you ask me.
Yes - the whole 'everyone gets to attack back in full' and 'attack from a charge by initiative' will destroy a unit of knights.
Hey, maybe we will get an exception to the rule, just to keep Bretonnia on the same planet (battlefield) as the other armies?
It's all rumors at the moment, and I'm pretty sure there will be an ettra to "mend" current books before new ones are published.
