Whenever i go through my cavalry options for a new armylist i end up unable to choose between these two species. I'm sure im not the only one with that problem, so what is your oppinion about these two core choices?
Is one better than the other or do they serve very different purposes?
In 7th it was an easy choice for KotR were obligatory (and higher Ld was needed more), while the errantry banner was insane, so both made it in the field.
Impetuous (knights errant)
+1 WS and +1 Ldshp (KotR) and all that for 4 extra points each, and the command options cost extra.
And does the Errantry Banner still go as good as before, or has impetuous become a real liability?
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
KotR are a needed unit, no KotR, no ment-at-arms or bowmen, reason? Ld! besides the Errants are there to charge the doomwheel ant tie it up! (no caracters!) otherwise KotR are used. no other reason
I will usually try to bring both, although more KoR than KE. But, if I cannot fit them in, I dump the KE's because I just cannot get over reducing the WS and LD for the 4 pts. Also, 8th toned down fear and terror a bit, so KoR seem to hold up fine.
And YES, the Erranty banner is awesome, but that is just on the charge. You are still battling it out with WS 3 and LD 7. I do love the KE's and as I said I try to include them in larger armies - afterall, switching a unit from KoR to KE can save enough points for about 1 more Grail Knight! I usually don't worry about Impetuous - I just point them at the baddy they need to charge and off they go. I just usually find that their staying power is a little less when stuck in a cc battle.
I personally like KE. Immune to Psych on the charge is just amazong. And I am not too worried about the Imeptous, usually i have either my general nearby or the BSB, also the gleamin pennant allows you ro reroll a failed leaderhsip tst once.
Typically I am in combat turn 1, turn 2 at the latest anyway. WS 4 is nice and so is LD8, but I find the points save more useful elseware.
It should be noted that I run an RAF list. So I have 3 units of KE and 3 units of PK. LOL
I got the best and the worst in my army, no middle knights.
