Ok guys I have collected high elves and skaven and I am now looking to start a.new army but I fancy a change from the norm so I wounded what was so good about this army as I am thinking about collecting them next.
Depends on who you ask, though the general rumor mill would recommend the response of "Wait and see"
"The Lady Demands"
In my honst opinion, the good thing about this army is that its been waiting for so long for a new edition, that surely it must be in the near future, fingers crossed later this year.
Fluff wise they make you want them with the idea of knights (lots of knights) charging headlong across the battelfield and running over your opponent. In games mechanics wise, at the moment unless you pile multiple lance formations into single units, then you generaly bounce off and die. Cavalry took a bit of back step in 8th eddtion in favour of bigger blocked infantry units, one thing that brets seem to lack considerably on, especialy when you need them to be "good" infantry blocks. Men-at-arms simpley wont cut it in combat against other armies infantry, and your elite units just cant provide the number of sustained high strength attacks that you need (as you loose lances after the charge).
The good things are that its a very nice looking army when time has gone into painting them, and they have a style which is totaly unique to them. They also still have a S5 stone thrower which is great as even though you now get armour saves against Stone throwers, the big units you will use it against general dont have better than a 5+ save anyway which gets negated by your S5. Also means your wounding alot on 2s against T3 units, as other stone throwers got demoted to just S3 (down from S4 in 7th ed).
Saddly this is an army very much like woodelves which is so specialised hat GW dont know how to amend them to fit in 8th ed without jumping on another amries mechanics in bret clothing. E.g. if they started having more elite foot troops then it would marginalise the Empire or even chaos play styls slightly.
As Blind_baku has said, wait and see what happens to them before you jump in.
The character models for brets are poor.
Thanks guys I will wait and see what happens with brets I will keep reading and listening and I will let you know what I decide to do after I have been to thrown of skulls at warhammer world Nottingham in march. Thanks agen.
