Hey i play Bretonnians and i fight dwarves and empire alot, occasionaly at the same time. so, i was wondering what you veterens out there would recomend having men at arms take (spear or halberd) if i am fighting both enemies at once.
Dont bretonnians have this special rules which lets use both a halberd and a shield. IMO I would give them a halberd. +1 Strength is nice and lowers the enemys armour save (great against dwarves!).
Yeah man, I personally dig halberds, the +1 strength is invaluable considering when you DO hit, it's probably going to do some damage to the tough dwarfs or the t3 empire boys. Fighting in ranks is nice, but considering men at arms have ws2, it's not going to add all that much of a punch that a halberd would have. That's me.
when you say special rule to use both halberds and shields, do you mean they get the save a shield gives while in combat even when using the halberd?Originally Posted by Jamo da Jaminator

The pole arm counts as a halberd. You may field spears instead. If you field the pole arm, which counts as a halberd you can't use your shields in close combat. If you field spears you may use a shield in close combat. Also every model is equiped with a sword, so you could also get into a combat situation where you might want to use hand weapon and shield instead of your alternate weapon choice. However doing so in the first round of combat locks you into that weapon choice until your opponent flees.Originally Posted by GreyKnight6962
yeah i got that, thanx anyways though. Ive decided to go with the hand weapons and shields cause i usulay use the men at arms to lock an opponent in combat until the knights finish who they're fighting to charge.
Halberds are invaluable against dwarves. Their extra strength boost is a definete must.
BTW, do the m@a sprue come with hand weapons and shields?
nope. it doesn't even come with spears, only halbards...
It's only a lance of Grail Knights... won't hurt at all!
The Polearm counts as a Spear & Halberd & no-ones going to critise you if you say that their holding handwepaons.
