I'm wanting to start an all out Brettonian Knight army (+ plus a few damsels) but i've read most of the lists and peasents seem like an intergral part of any brettonian army. are they? I read a battle report vs omb kings in a white dwarf from way back when the new bretts just came out came out. The peasents, with their low leadership, were pretty useless. Usually fleeing, to the left, to the right and straight through the bloody center. I could have about 6 units of various knights in 2000 points, besides looking amazing it should be fun to play right?
i'm getting side tracked. Do you need peasents in an army? or could an all knight army do ok?
Peasents are a must, they beef up your ranks and screen in very important ways. They have a leadership no worse than you knights if deployed properly. The trick is to keep your peasents away from each other but all close enough to units of knights that they share leadership. Too many means they'll panic each other. I'm not just talking about M@A here. Peasent Bowmen are fantastic at blocking flanks or holding a position. It may be a bit of a loose interpretation but considering what defensive stakes do, you cannot be overrun so its safe to position them near stationary or reserve units. And I'm not going to go in to all the uses of Mounted Yeomen. Our fast cavalry doesnt seem like the best but I think they have to be somewhere up there because they dont cause panic in knights when fleeing, use knightly leadership, and if you really really really wanted to you could make them one of the more potent fast cav units in the game with magical items.
I love that rule, also remember they a very very cheap.they dont cause panic in knights when fleeing
I have had bowmen on a hill see off cold one knights and the unit only costs me 100pts!
Knights get rank bonus too. ^^Peasents are a must, they beef up your ranks
Peasants definitely aren't essential, you can run a list effectively without them. But I can tell you, you'll get very bored with them. It will be nothing more than charge forward and bust apart everything that doesn't get out of your way fast enough.
So take some peasants, a unit or two of archers, trebuchet, maybe some yeoman. I personally don't like MaA models, so don't use any.
An all-knight list is the least flexible list there is though. So if the other army has any shooting whatsoever you have nothing in the front advancing for you and thus the only thing that can be shot at are knights. Not to mention if they're skaven for instance and your get swarmed by 3 units per knight unit its very hard to win.
