Ok, before I type this I'd like to make something clear - I don't play WHFB. I don't own any fantasy battle armies and have never played a game of Fantasy. I do know quite a bit about the background, have a rather vague understanding of the rules, and I've seen quite a few battles played out between my friends (usually Empire versus Vampire Counts) but I don't have a real 'grasp' of fantasy in the way I have of 40k. Therefore anything I say that comes across as stupid....is merely me being uninformed. I'll also apologise about the length and long windedness of this post.
Well, the reason I've never played Fantasy is quite simple, I never saw an army I liked. I generally only play as the 'good guy' in my armies, it's just how I prefer to fight. However out of the good guy armies I never saw an army I liked the models for. I dislike the look of Lizardmen, most empire models with their 'poofy' pants, and I'm sorry but I've always found the idea and look of elves silly. I mean no disrespect for the players of those armies, I mean it just as a personal preference for me. There's no point me playing an army that I don't like the look of on the table - I'd just get bored of it. Anyway, for me this left only Dwarves, but put simply they don't fight the way I would like them too. The new (and old) models I quite liked, but I like my armies to be able to move a bit..and in the end I abandoned the project. Anyway, my point was that I simply couldn't envision any army that looked 'to my taste'.
Then last night I was watching the film Kingdom of Heaven and admiring the Templar Knights on it. The look of the army when it approaches over the horizon in the scene with the massive stand off (those who've seen the movie will know the one I mean) was incredible. I love the look of the army, particularly the Templars with their crosses. I couldn't stop thinking how much I'd love an army just of uniform knights marching across the table baring the cross of Saint George...it would look awesome (and be a very patriotic army for us English (Y)).
For those who may need a visual aid:
Basically to make such an army look as I want I would be limiting myself to a very small unit selection. I've been playing round with the GW minatures page and army builder to see what would look and act suitably for me. Although of course my army fluff would not be a Templar/Kingdom of Heaven army I don't want to deviate from the image. So basically I want to limit myself to only models which look correct to me. So my question is, do you think I could make an army by only using the following selections:
Core: Knights of the Realm
Special: Questing Knights
Rare: Grail Knights
I'd be limiting myself to these models so I'd not be allowing myself Damsels, Pegasus Knights, a Trebuchet etc. While I'm sure they are great units, they don't fit the image I'd be trying to design. So that's basically where I was was asking.
1. What do you think of the army 'scheme'? Can you think of a way to improve it? I've already decided to clip all those crests off all the helmets to make them look more uniform. I was also thinking about converting my questing + grail knights from the plastic KOTR to give me more customisable options.
2. Can this army be competitive? I've been reading a few online Bret tacticas to try and get my head round them, and it's got me worrying. What do you think about going into battle without support units, like the Pegasus Knights to take out Warmachines, or some magic/dispel help? Could it cripple me?
Cheers for whoever bothers to read all the way down to here

Theres a threshold you cant go beyond when it comes to theme vs functionality. You really have no chance of winning if you NEVER bring a damsel and trebuchet may not be such a big deal but pegasus knights are one of our better units. Think it over again if I were you thats as far as I'll go.
in the siege of jerusalem they had trebuchets deployed behind their walls so you could still take a trebuchet with the theme, damsel could be a noble women orso and the pegasus knights could be myth beings (not sure if pegasusses are mentioned in the christian religion, only sure about greek and roman), but still you could get an army with that theme was thinking of it myself too but im not doing it cuz you never know how other people would react on it on these days making EU and American countries a new crusader age and the signs on the rider picture's shield is more empire then bretonnian
about your taste my first army was Orcs and Goblins, then beast of chaos and now selling the O&G for a new Bretonnia army so lots of different things, but when i took beastmen to the battlefield i missed my artillery and archers to much so now im going for brets, so my advice is buy or if possible lend a small dwarf army play with them and you will see that they can move too, Countercharging for example, but if you really want a fast moving army Brets are the way and the models you will respet them after somewhile, i hated O&G models and loved the beastmen's but after some battles i respected the O&G models but they arent my style of battle
so big advice decide what is gonna be your battlestyle for example the ill just get to the other side of the field and kill them (O&G, Chaos) or the look at me a have uber magic  (HE), etc
rethought it now and im now saying let them think what they think im going for the grand teutonic order theme for most units except 1 KotR and KE unit

I've always wanted to do some conversion of pegasus knights to make them look like angels. You could always have them the same stats as regular PKs and it would fit with your theme I think.
uhm where would you put the knights??
hehe It would be a knight with big frickin wings ! angelic and it, itself would be both stats in one. (what did you think the knight would ride piggy back on the angel =P )
Kingdom of heaven also had Men-At-Arms. In fact the only parts of the bret book that movie didn't have was mounted Yeomen, Pegasus Knights, and Grail Reliquae with Battle Pilgrims (although if you had them carry something religious or significant to your theme other than a dead guy).
I think the theme would be cool. Could lead to some fun paint jobs. You could make your general the leper King and have him missing an arm
So far mixed feedback. The only thing that concerns me really is the lack of Damsels/Dispel power, as these are one of the things I would definately be lacking.
So a definate no then for Pegasus Knights but I could try to live without them. Hmm a Trebuchet could be on the cards....just gotta figure the damsel problem in my head.
