adding a lord on a hypogrif in a 2k army could be the suporting element your knights need, or it could take away from the core of your force as a points sink. I think that a huge monster like that combined with a lord is just as effective as a unit of knights. that, combined with some pegasus knights, and yeomen, you have an even more mobile force.
yeah that does sound like it would work well... i don't know about yeoman tho... i prefer errant knights... tho in all honesty... i haven't play a game yet... thus i'm still creating my army as we speak.... i'm runnning grail knights, KOTR, knights errant, some bowmen, 2 damsels....when i can grab 'em.... lord on hippogriff and posibly some questing knights.....
Its tought to call...I mean, all in all you will be spending about 100 points more on the lord once he gets equiped and everything than on a unit of 9 Knights with full command. It would definately have to be used either as a war machine/wizard hunter. Or as a flanking unit. ( it has unit strength 5 so you would be ok). It would be tough to get your points back going for the warmachines and wizards. I actually think a Pegasus might leave you in better position for going after those. But as a flank against rank and file it would be quite nice to have the attacks /terror/and unit strength that the hippogrif allows for.
between the two of them they can take on small units, or larger ones with (not as) a flanker. thats why pegasus knights would be great with the lord so they can get flank charges.
Spending ~ 400+ points on one model is (IMHO) extremely risky. He's almost guaranteed NOT to get his points back (He'd have to kill nearly 25% of the enemy army to do so), and your enemy IS going to concentrate his firepower on him. One lucky cannonball and you're out a HEAP of points.
In a 3000 point game, I'd consider it, but in a 2000 point game, I just don't see how you could afford him. He's worth 2 largish units of knights!
If you're worried about enemy wizards and war machines, take Pegasus Knights (who are really good at this), or a hero on a pegasus.
The only purpose a Bretonnian General serves is killing the enemy characters and other things your knights might have difficulties with (with isn't that many things...)
wouldn't a lord on some huge creature have an easier time killing enemy characters and things your knights have difficulties with?
Probably.Originally Posted by userpaladin

Maybe it's just my playing style, but I really don't like the idea of fielding a single model that's worth nearly 25% of my total army points.
I tend to agree whit Rameus.Dont forget you have to deal a lot of damage to equal the combat resolution of a full rank unit. The lord on monster thing might work whit other armies such as vampire or chaos but i just dont think that bretonian lord are tough enough. Now a 3k point game is a different matter cause you can spare the points.
Let slip the dogs of war.
Bretonian (over 5k points)
Tomb king (over 5k points)
Ogre kingdom (4.5k points)
Tyranid (3k points but not even half assemble, new army)
