1) My friend said units of knights have to wheel from the back because they are a long unit. Is this true?
2) What is the ideal number of Grail Knights for a 1.5k army?
1) There is no rule about measuring a wheel from the back. A wheel is always measured from the left or right front corner (depending on how you are wheeling)
2) GK are amazing, and one of the best knight units in the entire game, but they are very expensive. If you elect to take GK in a 1.5k game, make sure you bring enough to able to stand up to shooting (because the GK will function as a huge fire magnet). This means you should bring a fairly large unit (7-8 ), do not skimp and only bring 5 (I learned that the hard way). but at a 1.5k 8 Gk will eat up a lot of your points, so you have to decide whether you want 8 GK or 12 KOTR or 15 KE?
You can bring fewer then 8 but you have to shield them for awhile hampering their maneuverability. Once you get them on a flankt hough..it usually means good night enemy.
I wouldn't take them on anything smaller than 2k, but thats me.
I just played a 3k game today with 8 of them, though they were 8 of about 45 horse mounted knights, so they could easily be defended etc.
well a unit of 6 is the ideal number for any points below 2500 but as already stated they will have to hide behind a kotr unit for the first 1-2 turns to avoid the torrade of fire that gets thrown at them
however if they survive long enough to line up with the enemy's flank :w00t: no bs they are fully capable of running down an entire line (especially under the new rules) if they can build up sufficient momentum
although personally in less than 2000 i'd leave em out they eat waay too many points and again in low games a trebuchet and pegasi are much more useful

I actually think that they could work effectively as an MSU unit of just three. It doesn't cost too much and is very manouvrable. Your enemy could shoot at them, ignoring your larger Knights units, or ignore them at their peril. They could then get into the flank of your enemies, potentially wreaking havoc.
I'm hoping to pick some up in the next couple of months, so I'll try this tactic out myself in the when I eventually get them painted.
