I found a few posts related to this, but they where quite old.. and I know that there should be no undiging old posts.
Anyhow, I have recently been able to use my lord, and a few things have come to mind... first off, I love the grail vow.. second I love the Hypogryph... so those two are in the picture, lastly, I like my lord going arround challenging everything he sees, so I give him the virue of confidence and the challenge glove, this allows me to pummel unit sarges into dust and gain quite a decent combat resolution. Anyhow there are a few things that have come up.. mainly with wargear and weapons...
I like the sword of might, but I also like the Birth Sword of carcassone, or maby I sould go for a simple sword of striking?...
And the other thing is to do with my blessing, I know that the aura that affects the rider also affects the mount, so If I give him a grail shield, a 4+ ward save is in order... but I also like the Gromril Great Helm, and I cant decide weather to add to the armour od the rider and be able to re roll hits... of go for the better wards save... anyhow. I have narrowed down the choices to those.
Any oppinions would be gratly appreciated.
Since you already gave the Lord virtue of Confidence, if I remember correctly, it makes you reroll to hit and to wound rolls in duels. Since your char will be spending most of his time in duels anyway, you probably won't need the helm. I would instead go with the grail shield and a magic weapon. If you use the armour of agilulf in conjunction with the shield you won't need the +1 to hit of Sword of striking. Instead, get a sword of battle. I like this:
Virtue of confidence
Armor of Agilulf
Sword of Battle
Gauntlet of the Duel
That is correct.I was under the understanding that you cant have 2 magical armours... the armour of arguilf comes with a shield... but you cant by the enchanted shield on top of that... can you?
You cannot combine a magical shield with magical armour since they're both under the category of 'magical armour'.
I like the fact that he is a duelist, on a powerfull mount... the mobility is amazing and all. Ill have to try the armour of arguilf... but because the mount cant have bard, im at 3+ armour, and against tough opponents thats not gonna help... the armour in my oppinion would help me defend myself, but the +1 to hit is powerfull, as it helps me more in the case of other WS 10 chars... ill be hitting them on 3+.. so they will be too,, now, If I where to take both... that would be kewl. but reatively redundant.
I like the helm because of the armour re roll. So even if i get a -3 modifyer to my armour I can re roll that 5+, and then get the blessing.
The shield (grailshield) on the other hand helps my mount more, I only get a 3+ armour save, cant re roll it, but the ward save is 4+, and it helps my mount...
I also know that there are other ways to equip my character, but I like the whole challenge thing, being a Black Templar Player and all. I know that the Bretonnian Lord is average for a human lord, and im getting to grips witht he fact that there are alot of things out there that can kick his butt.
so im in a tangle.
I also have to learn how to use a mounted character in the propper way, but thats material for another discusion.
oops, sorry, I thought you meant the enchanted shield. I prepare my lists at army builder, and army builder says enchanted shield can be combined wtih other magic armor. I checked from the army book and it doesn't say anything about it. Can you say anyhing about that?
In 6th ed you could combine the enchanted shield with another magic armour, but in 7th ed you cannot. You only get 1 magic weapon/armour/etc, the only exceptions being powerstones, dispell scrolls and things which have specific rules.
Also a question about the ward save for your Hypogryph. Saves do not cross over from the rider to the mount unless the item specifies that it does, for example the Golden Eye of Tzeench (or whatever it is called). I'm not that familar with the Bret codex, does the ward save item specify that it affects the mount?
As far as magic weapons go, it's often hard to argue with str bonuses, as they help wounding and lower your opponent's armour save.
the item does not specifically state hat it affects the mount. However... under the "blessing of the lady" rule, it specifically states that the blessing that affects the rider affects the mount... the grail shield augments the ward save given by the ladies blessing... so it should cover the mount... due to the above stated rule.
at least thats how its read...
Ok since your making a duelist why don't you try this combination:
Morining Star of Fracasse
Gauntlet of the Duel
Virtue of Confidence
I don't have my Army book handy but I believe it should fit in your points range. Your virtue will make up for not having WS 10 by allowing rerolls. And the MSoF is a nasty weapon for enemy characters, who are often carrying nasty magic weapons. Combine this with your massive charge range which will allow you to be going first more times then not in combat and your all set.
Now, for the ward save affecting the mount. Even if the Blessing of the Lady effects your mount,(which I'm not sure it does) I'm nearly positive that the 4+ save from the Grail Shield wound NOT effect your mount. Your Lord is the one carrying the shield, not your mount. Play to the spirit of the rules, not any loose wording that may be written down. Because if the shield were to increase the ward save of the mount (IF it gets the ward save at all) then why wouldn't say a lance increase the S of the creature on the charge. Yes a poor example but I'm sure you can see where I'm going with that.
