    Fluffy, Chaotic 4th Ed Death Guard

    Alright, I've been toiling over the list and strategies for what I'd want to do with this. I'll admit, some of my choices have been made just to use some of the new shiny models I'll be getting in the box I pre-ordered, but I think it all comes together very well.

    There are those DG players that consider 5 squads of PMs all fitted out the same exact way to be fluffy, but I think that's a bit dull. I've never been a fan of that. My list's fluff is that it's a Zombie Plague era strike force. They teleport down off their plague ships, stomp around a bit, wake the dead, and Typhus joins in on the fun, too. It was going to be a glorious LatD/DG list, but those dreams will have to be put off for some time with the new 'dex here. I'm still using the zombies I've done up as Lesser Daemons, though :yes:

    Having just done this manually, I hope all the points are right. I'm just too used to Army Builder, so I don't usually do 'em this way.



    Tactics: The two PM squads in the Rhinos barrel up front and center. Rhinos turn longwise, and drop the marines out the back to form a nice wall of cover for the rest of my advancing troops.



    Depending on where the enemy armor is driving around, the Termies deep strike in off Typhus or the PM squads, and get to smashin'.



    Typhus and his cadre of Possessed (because they lack shooty, and he doesn't), and the Daemon Prince and his group of PMs with Plasmas (because they have shooty and he doesn't really) foot slog it out to cover the flanks while the Rhino squads hold the line. I figure the Possessed will work in that role with any of the abilities they'd get, and they're really there more as a small meat shield who can cover any DSing, drop podding, infiltrating in my back line. Likewise with the DP and his PMs with Plasmas (I considered Havoks there, but the PMs would be so much sturdier).



    Then, wherever there need be more cc trouncing is where the lesser daemons (ie zombies) would be DS'ed in. And, of course, the Defilers will be laying down the battle and auto cannon fire the whole time, closing in for any necessary swarm control with their twin-linked flamers, and ripping some things apart with their claws if need be.



    It's diverse, adaptable, and very tactical in my opinion, and it looks like it'll work out pretty well to me.




    I'm working on alterations of this list for 1850, 1500, and smaller lists right now, but this 2000 pointer is where it really all comes together best, I think.

    Hello Mr. Barbarian. I'm going to take a crack at your list. You're a little shy on tank busting weaponry. I'd suggest taking a predator at the expense of the possessed.

    Typhus: I'll hold my reservations about the new special characters for now. Generally speaking, they do seem better, but overall, it's still difficult to warrant their cost. I'm speaking specifically about Typhus, Abadon, and Ahriman.

    Daemon Prince: This beat really needs flight. It's the only way of getting him into c.c. without taking an onslaught of enemy ranged fire. Gifts is ok, but most of the time, your prince should be cutting throw enemy units at a very effective rate, which somewhat begs the question of gifts. Against monstrous creatures and heavy infantry, gifts will come in handy; still, you'd be better off giving your prince Warp Time or Winds of Chaos.

    Terminators: Looks good.

    Possessed: At the 2000 point mark, these pups will be eaten alive by enemy ranged weaponry. Even if you roll for one of the movement modifiers, they still aren't fast enough on their own. I'd suggest giving them a rhino. While the rhino prohibits their accompaniment by your prince, it will, at the same time, protect your possessed and also aid in blocking L.O.S. to your prince- all good things to be sure.

    Second, 5 possessed just isn't enough to do much. You need at least 7 (preferably .

    Plague Marines: Drop possession from the rhino. It's too expensive an upgrade, and smoke achieves somewhat of the same affect, which means you're paying for redundancy. If you want to protect your rhinos, your best bet is to challenge your opponent with higher priority targets, such as predators, defilers, and princes (which you've done).

    Also, your last plague marine squad needs a rhino. While you might get away without one, against ranged armies, such as Tau and I.G, you really need all of your plague units to get into c.c. as soon as possible. Also, without a rhino, you'll always play the catch up game against mechanized armies, that is, your marines will have serious issues reaching a mobile enemy line.

    Lesser Daemons: Excellent! While most players regard these little guys as worthless, I'm of the opinion that they can be used quite effectively, especially considering their cheap cost.

    Defilers: Swap out the secondary weaponry for 2x c.c. weapons (i.e., the reaper and flamer). Deifler rarely, if ever, fire these guns, and you really want your defilers to charge into c.c. with maximum damage output.

    Ummm, what is typhus going to do if his possessed should happen to get wings/scouts etc? Just a thought, but it put me off possessed, that and their huge cost for the fact that they either rocks socks, or suck xD.

    If Typhus is going to get anything as a bodyguard, I'd probably recommend Terminators. Admittedly it will be a bit more costly but they are a bit more predictable as a retinue and won't go raring off towards the nearest enemy unit or leave you stranded when they get Fleet. Besides which, it's fluffy. Terminators are highly respected amongst the Death Guard.

    Yeah, but I'd want these Termies for DSing in the face of some tanks. I'll have to consider what else I might be able to do there.

    And the advice I'll definitely take is canning Daemonic Possession off the Rhinos. I guess I just wasn't thinking about the smoke.Good call, Rabbit.

    That at least frees up some points for beefing something else up.

    I'm not so sure I can do another Rhino or the Pred at the moment, just because I won't be getting those models for quite some time. I'm trying to work with what I got ...

    And I'll really consider giving the Daemon Prince wings, but I just couldn't think of any fluffy way of doing it for the Nurgle fellow. I came up with something last night that would involve little plastic fly wings if I can find something like that. Fluffy, funny looking on that big model, and I think it'd work out alright.

    Well, maybe he simply transforms into a cloud of flies and moves around the battlefield? There are plenty of ways to rationalise wings/jump packs in terms of mutation. On the other hand, if you're following the fluff, you might not necessarily want to give him wings as the Death Guard is primarily infantry-based and will most likely fight on foot without any sort of incredible specialisation. After all, they are expected to be proficient in all aspects of combat. Just a little fluff advice, I know that wings are a major sacrifice to make for the fluff considering how good they are.
