Iím trying to recreate the effect I had with my old IW list. Unfortunately, indirect fire of any type is gone. So, I was looking at a mechanized infantry list that was Rino heavy. However, I would have to buy a lot of Rinos (4-5) for it to be effective and I am a little unsure as to the actual effectiveness w/Chaos. Also, my primary enemy is SMs, Tau, and Nids, so I need to be good with all 3, which isnít easy. So, without my Codex in front of me, hereís what I came up with last night. Feel free to tear into it.
Normally I run about 44-49 models at 2k, but this also usually included some armor (not much & Mostly indirect). As my list got more and more infantry, I decided to go all infantry since lonely Armor is dead Armor. This list should be 51 models if I included everyone. I also really think this list needs oblits, but they are so much more expensive...
DP w/ MoS, Flight and Lash
-His goal, run around with the raptors to set them up for prime opportunities. He could also support other squads, but they might waste his speed advantage.
3x Bikes, 2x Melta
-Pop pesky vehicles, take objectives.
7x Raptors, 2x Melta, Champ w/ LClaws
-What else, close combat FTW! Objective takers, possible deep strikers with the Chosen as markers. Also, They could DS in to support one of the marked infantry units.
5x Noise Marines, Battlemaster (is that the right name?), 4x Sonic blasters
5x Noise Marines, Battlemaster, 4x Sonic blasters
-Fire support. Long range, can fire on the move, versatile. Takes the place of the old 5-man Las sniper teams. Fearless removes some of the burden with low numbers in the squad.
6x 1k Sons, 1x Sorc w/ FW/BP, AT bolt (forgot name, the AP 1 Str 8 one).
6x 1k Sons, 1x Sorc w/ FW/BP, AT bolt
-These are the front line advancers. Not as survivable as Death Guard, but pack more firepower. If I decide to advance my Noise Marines, these guys act as a wall infront of them.
7x Chosen, Loadout is either 2x Plasma or 2x Melta
-Plop on an objective, used to establish a flank with the DS termies and Raptors
4x Termies w/ 4x Combi Plasma
-Situational used to support Chosen
5x Havocs w/ 3x MLs
-Pure fire support, and I had a few points leftover.
Well, is it a list waiting to die or some neat nasty stratagem?
I personally don't see the resemblance, but I guess that's not really that important-- you have the firepower in the sheer number of power armor troops which is all that really counts, right? :-)Iím trying to recreate the effect I had with my old IW list.
Have to say, I'm a bit surprised at the ammount of cc in an IW memorial army.
If you're fighting nids and tau, the one thing i would say is USE HEAVY BOLTERS (unless battlemaster is the Slaanesh equivalent of the HB, in which case you can ignore the rest of this). They're not terrible against space marines and they rip apart gaunts and fire warriors like no other. My army is (will be) constituted of four 5-6 man troop squads with a heavy bolter in two and a missile launcher (or lascannon, can't decide) in the other two. Also, predator's with autocannon and 2 x heavy bolters are strong anti-troop, though I don't know if they're still cost-efficient since I haven't gotten to take a good look at the new codex yet. Heavy bolter will help you kill (efficiently):
-Nids (of all shape and size)
-Space Marine Scouts
-Anything else that's infantry with a 4+ or worse save (roughly 1/2 of the 40k models)
They've won me SO many games I can't even remember them all. My brother plays nids and one of my friends plays Tau, so this is a tried and true method. Just watch out for Tau, because at 36", they can shoot back.
Who needs a gun when you've got Criss Angel?
GO DARK ELDAR!
...The most underrated race in the game!
Chaos is pretty sweet too...
Heck, All the Bad Guys are the Shoot!
"DARN YOU! DARN YOU ALL TO HECK!"

it looks interesting Shoal, if a tad bit light on ranged AT... Were I you I would try to fit a squad of autocannon wielding havocs in there as well as the ML squad. That way the can double up as troop killers and light armor killers.
EDIT: Or just ignore me... now that I have had a second look you should be good for armor poppers, I forgot about the Bolt of Changes in the aspiring sorcerers ( that's what its called)

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT!
I survived LO Chat thanks to: Karmoon, Rabbit, Process, Tossy and Meish.
Light on AT?
2 Blastmasters, 2 bolt of change, 3 MLs, and 4-6 Meltas... Not very light on AT IMO. For troop killing, 10 sonic blasters and 12 inferno bolters (don't forget the AT weps that have dual uses) plus a DP and a squad of Raptors. The termies are kinda all-purpose, but I think oblits might be better. I'm a little iffy on the bikes, but I do need some speed somewhere.
This list is neat and nasty. It's not exactly a horde army but as close to it as a Chaos army can be. It's going to be an excellent list against Tyranids and Space Marines and if you advance against the Tau you should be able to withstand some punishment.
You cannot say it's based on Iron Warriors tactics tho... sadly you don't have any tanks, obliterators and only 1 havoc... to claim to be an Iron Warrior you need at least 3 heavies. Also Iron Warriors used to be dedicated to Chaos Undivided, cult troops are not something they employ . Make it a Slaanesh flavored list and be happy with it .
The only thing I see is missing in that list is some Lesser Daemons, they are neat and nasty too and are great close combat troops (and they are cheap too). They would work really well with your Chaos Bikers and your Raptors, dropping Daemons in enemy lines while the rest of your army advance.
