He has only died in one game (out of 20+?). The Chosen usually infiltrate and maybe kill a tank, but mostly force something to move away or towards them for the first turn, not the strongest unit, but do not want to do the whole 5 plasma guns in a rhino thing. No Aspiring Champs in the troops for model count and the init 5 thing gives 18 attacks on the charge, so finding points for that power weapon/doom siren is kind of draining. And nobody likes a St 8 AP3 Blast Pinning. Marines in the Rhino for OBJ grabbing and occasional harrassment (meltagun out the top). The bikes are good tank-hunters and great OBJ grabbers (and no, I am not going with the MoS with a PW, the fist is way too handy with the MoK on side armor). And the Obliterators have proven their worth time and again (even after getting totally and completely hosed) against the 2 Deepstrike Monoliths thing. So please feel free to tell me what you think is weak, wasted points and/or suggestions.

I woulld drop the bike unit. It is very expensive for only 4 models that can very easily take 2-3 csualties and become worthless. HQ: Nice but in a 2000 point game you need a little more survivability. Mark of Nurgle or Tzeentch would help. I prefer Nurgle as it makes the guy virtually bolter proof and the common St4 power weapon is almost useless against him. Chosen: Good. Maybe another melta if you have the points. Dread: Hmmm what happens if you roll a 6 and charge into combat? You will be locked there with no power weapon. I would always keep the CCW on a Chaos dread because of blood frenzy. Noise marines: Nice but equipping each squad with 3-5 sonic blasters makes them kick out plenty of firepower at all ranges. CSM in Rhino: Swap these for 6-7 plague marines in rhino with AC/PF and 2 meltaguns. Keep the rhino for them but drop the upgrades. Oblits: Classic. Defilers: Useful but low armour may mean they die quickly. Vindicators with possession may be more survivable but certainly less fun.

Ever noticed that a Dread and a Defiler have the same armor? Just thought I would mention that only because it makes me giggle late at night. Another one that makes me laugh is that the "rule of dreadnought" states that the dread will only kill one model in CC per turn no matter what it is armed with. Just some funny things I noticed... .... I like the suggestion of the plague marines and I am going to give the bike issue some deeper thought. And sonic blasters... Yummy...

I'd swap the bikers out for a similarly-priced and similarly-geared unit of raptors, as it would give you more boots on the table, more attacks in CC, and probably stand a better chance of still being a scoring unit by game's end. Also, in a list with this many blast and large blast templates, I'd suggest giving the prince lash so he could arrange enemy units into a neat little pieplate-shaped bundle for your blasting pleasure. In fact, I'd probably try and find the points to give him a twin for more badguy-bundling goodness. I'd drop blastmasters from two of your four noise marine units and replace them with sonic blasters for more dakka dakka. Actually I'd suggest dropping all four blastmasters (because I think they're way overpriced) if you hadn't said "what iron warrior wouldn't want a blastmaster," suggesting they're important to your fluff. You might also consider dropping the Dreadnaught and maybe cutting a few chosen to put in a DS'ing unit of 5 termies with 4 combi-plasmas, a pfist and a heavy flamer. They're not too expensive, can do a ton of damage to just about anything, and have good synergy with a fast-moving unit like raptors or bikers or a forward-deploying unit like your chosen who can help them DS safely/reliably with an icon. Happy hunting! -GK |
