So here is a list I made while on the way into the city the other day, as above its a 750 points tourney which will be my first but it isn't for a few months, not that I won't have the guys ready well before then...
Now I know I'm not an experienced player, but if anyone here feels I'm doing something major wrong then let me know please
Chaos Lord: 155
Mark of Khorne
This guy I've spend quite a while painting up and converting slightly to have him ready, I understand the risks fully of a daemon weapon but I think the payoff is much to great to be worried about missing a turn of combat... how many 1's can I roll in a single game anyway?
11 x Chaos Space Marines 165
Just sort of a filler of points, I could of put a plasma pistol on the Skull Champion or even given these guys their own leader but I think its just wasted points when there is no special equipment throughout the squad.
8 x Khorne Bezerker' 198
I love these guys, I really do, and I just hope my paint job on them does them justice, I probably should have a rhino there to transport these guys but its going to have to be something I think about a little later, no plasma on the champion cos I roll terrible when it comes to plasma and I don't want to lose him to such a stupid thing.
8 x Havocs 230
3 x Missile Launchers
This is my anti-tank/anti-horde squad, I've taken my heavy bolter filled squad into combat vs my brothers orks and they were slaughtered because I just cant roll well and I'm petrified of tanks so this seems a natural option, I'm also not aware of how many nids or orks COULD be brought to a table in a 750 points game but this should help balance out any indiscretion.
I was thinking about a Defiler, and I have a brand new Predator I'm putting together but unless its just me, but my tanks are always taken out by the slightest of troops so I don't feel its worth it personally and they become too much of a target.
Just so you know, with the Daemon weapon of Khorne, there's about a 30% chance you'll roll a 1.
and a 15% chance ill get 15 attacks
How is it that?
How many attacks does he have after the mark of Khorne?
Well I can't say here but I'm pretty sure if rolling 2 sixes can happen thats around the 16 attack mark?
I love easy questions!
On two dice, since you're running with a Bloodfeeder, you have 36 possible combinations. Of those 36 combinations, 11 of them contain at least one '1' result.
Simple math says 11 divided by 36 = 30.5%, rounded up to an easy 31% failure rate, which is right where Winterous estimated. Given that a combat, if done properly, lasts two rounds (yours and your opponents), then you have approximately a 52.7% chance of 'stunning' yourself at least one of those two rounds.
Of course, that's all assuming he even makes it to combat, since you have really no effective delivery system for him. Foot slogging is a bad idea without transports, and you have no Icons to Deep Strike off of. Even if you did have Icons, I still wouldn't recommend Deep Striking a close combat Lord.
These aren't filler points - they're wasted points. The eleventh marine does nothing for the squad. The squad itself has no purpose but to stand around and take shots, but any sane opponent will realize they have no bite and will simply ignore them until they must knock them below scoring.
Dropping one Marine will give enough points for something like an Autocannon or Missile Launcher. Then they'd at least have some form of purpose.
The rest of the army looks nice. I think you're going to suffer without any form of speed; no transports or Jump Pack units means you have no effective way of capturing distant objectives. In a tournament setting, many armies will be able to simply run circles around your troops, knock you below scoring, then pick up objectives for a win.
At 750 points, you can get away with a single Predator since anti-tank is often very light, and passed over for more Troops. Take a look at your own list - you have a single unit capable of dealing with an armoured threat, and it's practically immobile. Imagine a Predator up against your army - it could simply avoid LoS to your Havocs and pick off the rest of your army. Instead, you might consider doing the same thing.
With the wasted marines, I do have plenty of Heavy Bolter guys around so will that do if needed or is the Autocannon a must? I do have one of them as well just so you know.
As for the speed - yes I know that its going to be a prick not to have that, but do you think I should just drop the havocs for a Predator? or lower the Chaos Space Marine squad to fit a Predator in? I did think about what you said with the marine and getting a heavy weapon instead but I just wasn't sure about it at the time.
If I had a rhino, what would be the best troops to be taking in it? bez or havocs? obviously (to me at least) taking the Space Marines is a bad choice as once they get to the front like they will just shoot and be shot back and slaughtered where as the bez can do some damage as can the havocs.
Thanks for the help
Hrm... maybe you could tweak the list a little bit like this...
Chaos Lord: 155
Mark of Khorne
10 x Chaos Space Marines 215
8 x Khorne Bezerker' 243
Skull Champion w/ Powerfist
With something like that, you have a mobile tank buster (The Predator), speed (both units in Rhinos and the fully mobile Predator), and the Chaos Marines have a great purpose now (drive by Rapid Firing or mid to long range peppering with Plasma). You suffer a little bit on tank busting (Losing a LC and 3x MLs for a TLLC, PFist, and possible the Plasmas), but you shouldn't expect to see much armour at this points level. Just make sure you get the first strike in with your Predator and you should be golden.
You still have a problem with your HQ being horribly inefficient, however.
That's just what *I* would do - by no means are my words gospel.
Well I'm sure you know a thousand more times about this game than I do, But I think I'll stick with the havocs to be honest, only because I feel they are deadlier and the fact I can't change my preds weapons now cos its all LC.
I'd still need another rhino for the troops though, I only have one model for it and I'll be broke for the next month probably, plus I hate putting those pricks together.
I do agree with you though with the rhinos, they are nessesity but I just can't fit them in there, I'm going to have to do alot of tweaking.
What if I gave the lord deathscreamer instead and one of the squads a beacon to home into after they rhino into the fray?
The bottom line is those bezerkers need a rhino, since they lost the blood frenzy rule they're too slow, a land raider would be preferable because of charging after disembarking, but that's not gonna happen.
