In fact just had a thought. Would a list, which comprised of Abaddon, 4 Oblits, then as many CSM squads with fists and Meltas that numbered above 15 as possible be viable?

    Thanks

    EDIT:

    Like so:

    HQ
    Abaddon

    15 Chaos Space Marines
    Tzeentch

Im not ever so keen on special characters. All lack movement modifiers which greatly decreases there effectivness. For less points you can get a pretty good HQ choice that will be effective against all your opponants, a nurgle lord with daemon weapon for example will excel against TMCs, couple this with a chaos bike and you have the slayer, screaming around on his bike to dish out some serious hurt, T6 isnt somthing to ignore either!

    Troops
    15 Chaos Space Marines
    Tzeentch
    2 Melta Guns
    280

    15 Chaos Space Marines

    Melta Bombs

    15 Chaos Space Marines
    Tzeentch
    2 Melta Guns
    Champion
    Power Fist
    320
Why have a power fist and melta bombs? They both function similarly but the powerfist produces more attacks and is generally easier to hit with?
Big squads are not the way forward. The best squad size is 10 strong, when going over this level there efficencey steadily decreases. For the cost of these 3 units you could have four much more powerful units that are better functioning, easier to use and much more efficent.

IoT isnt a good choice really. a 5+ inv save isnt going to help against a bucket load of TMC attacks.

    2 Obliterators
These should be reorganised to be squads of 2,1,1, better fire allocation and better options, more scoring units. Whats not to like!

This list needs some reconsidering if it is to be effective against all opponants. TMCs armies, however, are a difficult breed to play against.

I've played with this kind of army for a really short while because it was the Death Guard way to play in the third edition codex. I've discovered really fast that that kind of army get owned by anything with speed simply because it's not able to keep up. An error in your deployment and you're toasted. If your fire support is taken out then you are only good at short range. In a word this kind of army lack mobility and mobility is more often than not the key to victory.

Abaddon is great, it's the best character we have. I've killed so many things with it, it's not even funny, everybody hate him where I play . I only play him in apoc games of 3000 pts and up tho and always with a retinue of Terminators. His ability to move around is almost non existant and generally he stay where he is summoned.

My advice would be to drop Abaddon for such a small game, you need the points elsewhere. If you really want a foot slogger list then you need transform one or two of your squad into Raptors. Put a Daemon Prince at their head or a Chaos Lord with jump pack. If you have any I would add some more Obliterators in there too. Your first list with 2 squads of 2 Obliterators was looking good.

Also, consider taking Lesser Daemons to boost your numbers and to help your CSM when and where they need it. Lesser Daemons can charge the turn they are summoned so they can provide some needed CC power in strategic places and shift the balance in your favor. The fact that everyone of your unit have an Icon will greatly help you put them where they are needed the most.

    HQ
    Daemon Prince (160 pts)
    Wings; Warptime

    Troops
10 Chaos Space Marines w/ 2 Melta Guns (220 pts)
    Champion w/ Power Fist
    Chaos Glory Icon

10 Chaos Space Marines w/ 2 Melta Guns (220 pts)
    Champion w/ Power Fist
    Chaos Glory Icon

    Lesser Daemon
    6 Lesser Daemons (78 pts)

    5 Lesser Daemons (65 pts)

    Fast Attack
    8 Chaos Raptors w/ 2 Melta Guns (230 pts)
    Champion w/ Lightning Claws
    Chaos Glory Icon

    8 Chaos Raptors w/ 2 Melta Guns (230 pts)
    Champion w/ Lightning Claws
    Chaos Glory Icon

    Heavy Support
    2 Obliterators (150 pts)

    1 Obliterator (75 pts)

    1 Obliterator (75 pts)

    Total = 1498 pts

This is only an exemple of what could be considered a faster foot slogger list. I've made 2 Obliterator squad of 1 Obliterator so you could deep strike them where you need them and they can target different units. Your CSM squads can follow the Raptor squads and while your opponent is busy fighting them you can close them in for the kill.

    Hope it helps.

This is a nice list there Thyr, its definately an improvement on the previous ones. I would strongly suggest swapping the lightening claws on the raptors for the Powerfist, the powerfist is a MUCH better weapon for a squad leader, it has better synergy with the melta guns, allows the model to attack both armoured targets and monsterous creatures, deters ICs and allows the model to shoot with his bolt pistol. Save the claws for your HQs.

Archnomad, give this list a trial and see how it fairs.

If you want to use Abaddon I recommend using him in a 2000 pts list.

If you want to use him that bad in a 1500 pts list then I recommand transforming one of your CSM unit into a Terminator squad so they will be able to be summoned together and they will soak up some of the fire power directed at him. That will make one tough unit any opponent will have trouble dealing with.

Again, I agree with Thry, if you want to use Abbadon then use him DSing with some super shooty termies (combi plasma ftw) or throw him in a land raider with a mix of chainfist and dual clawed terminators.
