    1500 Mech Infantry (balanced)

So this is my first attempt at putting together a coherent army list. The idea is to have something of a take-all-comers kind of thing, since in my area this list could be facing IG, Tyranids, Necrons, Space Wolves, or Grey Knights. Anyways, here is the list:

    HQ:

    1 Lord w/ power wep (105)

    Troops:

    Squad A:
    10 Marines w/ 2 plas, 1 Champ w/ Fist, Rhino (255)

    Squad B:
    10 Marines w/ 2 plas, 1 Champ w/ Fist, Rhino (255)

    Squad C:
    10 Marines w/ 2 melta, 1 Champ w/ Fist, Rhino (245)

    Squad D:
    8 Marines w/ 1 plasma, 1 Champ w/ Fist, Rhino (210)

    Heavy Support

Defiler w/ all CC weps (150)

Predator w/ AC turret / Las sponsons (130)

    2 Obliterators (150)

    Total: 1500
    Model Count: 47 (6 vehicle, 41 infantry)

    Thoughts:

In my mind, this army fights on the principle that it wants to out-shoot anything which out-cc's it, and out-cc's anything that outshoots it. So, the basic idea against a really shooty army would be to rush forward with rhinos and pop smoke turn 1, and try to get into rapid fire range on turn 2 for a turn 3 charge if all went well. The Lord would be hooked up with Squad D and in the rhino (scary thought) for transport, so he effectively acts as an extra-studly champ for infantry munching. This would be why I kept him cheap, since rhinos are rather fragile...

Against a CC oriented opponent, I would try to hang back and shoot for as long as possible, and try to use the rhinos as mobile terrain / tank shockers to disrupt the enemy's formation. The general idea would be to focus on killing the CC specialists at range so my own CC could handle the leftovers.

    Likes/Dislikes:

I like the relatively large quantities of troops I'm putting on the field (for a mechanized marine list anyway). My primary concern is with the choice of obliterators for a Heavy slot. They are grand support choices, and will put the hurt on anything they target (I plan to have them starting on the field) but on the other hand, they are likely the only infantry models to be on the field for the first turn or two. I rationalized this by claiming that they are pretty tough and thus would perhaps take some heat off the other vehicles since it takes low AP weapons to genuinely threaten them, but I still think that they are rather vulnerable.

My other concern is that the list seems a little bland with respect to special weapons, which leaves me wondering if I have enough "Oomph" to take on a power armor list... say, necrons. Maybe the support choices make up for it, but I'm not sure yet.

Anyways, such is my first attempt at list. Any feedback is more than welcome.

This list.... seems pretty solid, really.

I'd personally switch the chaos lord to a demon prince, change the plasma guns to melta guns, and turn the 2 oblits into another 2x lc + ac preddy. But really, your list is very good too.

wow, nice list. I say take one squad and give them melta guns just to be able to kill tanks and such. But as far as the rest i would just leave it. Demon prince will eat up points in other areas. Just keep your cheep lord in a squad and you will be fine.:party2:

Id suggest dropping the pblits for a AT pred and use the points to gain upgrades on the lord, consider lightening claws, daemon weapon and combi weapons.

I agree with what has been said. But a very solid list indeed.

    I like it

I like it, this is not very disimilar to the sort of lists I like to play with my CSM. I think you will find it pretty easy to shield the oblits with some cover. You only have two infantry models to deploy onto the field at the start of the game so if you don't have any suitable cover available then you picked the wrong side of the table my friend.

I think you will find the list pretty easy to use too. Let us know how it goes.
