    Night Lords 1000 Points

I'm steadily building up my Night Lords army and though I'm working towards larger games I thought I'd write up an all comers 1000 points list using mostly models I already own to get finished painting and on the table which works well because a few of my gaming buddies are currently starting a new Ork and Eldar army so we'll be sticking to smaller games for a bit anyways. Here's the list

    HQ:

    Chaos Lord - 145 Pts
Jump Pack, Pair of Lightning Claws, Melta Bombs

    Troops:

    Chaos Marines - 170 Pts (8 Models)
Aspiring Champion, Power Fist, Melta Gun
    Rhino - 35 Pts

    Chaos Marines - 105 Pts (6 Models)
    Plasma Gun
    Rhino w/ Havoc Launcher - 50 Pts

    Chaos Marines - 105 Pts (6 Models)
    Plasma Gun
    Rhino w/ Havoc Launcher - 50 Pts

    Fast Attack:

    Chaos Raptors - 170 Pts (6 Models)
Aspiring Champion, Pair of Lightning Claws, 2 Flamers

    Chaos Raptors - 170 Pts (6 Models)
Aspiring Champion, Pair of Lightning Claws, 2 Flamers

I'm thinking this should work pretty good. I've got three scoring units each with Rhino to use as mobile cover for my Raptors. I think there's sufficient anti-tank and anti-horde for 1000 points and some good shooting and close combat ability. Over all I think I should fair pretty well. Let me know what you guys think.

All looks well apart from the troop choices. If you are planning on upgrading the army to 1500 points then these are ok but the first thing to do in the upgrade is to increase the troops to 10 man units with 2 special weapons each and IoCG. I would even considder dropping a raptor unit in the 1000 point list to do this now.

i would take a flamer and plasma gun (or a plasma pistol) in the raptor squad, then the unit would be effective against all types of foes.

I disagree here, specialisation on a squad is much better than generalisation.

I agree with what Mad Cat said, those troops choices are horrible, i'm sorry but they are.
As a fellow Night Lords player I can understand you wanting to have many raptors, but one squad is suffice in 1,000 points.

I'd make drastic changes to this list, making it look more like the following:

    HQ:

    Chaos Lord - 140 Pts
Jump Pack, Pair of Lightning Claws

    Troops:

    Chaos Marines - 220 Pts (10 Models)
Aspiring Champion, Power Fist, 2x Melta Gun, Icon of Chaos Undivided
    Rhino - 35 Pts

    Chaos Marines - 220 Pts (10 Models)
Aspiring Champion, Power Fist, 2x Melta Gun, Icon of Chaos Undivided
    Rhino - 35 Pts

    Fast Attack:

    Chaos Raptors - 200 Pts (7 Models)
Aspiring Champion, Pair of Lightning Claws, 2 Flamers, Icon of Chaos Undivided

With the last 150 points, I would recommend taking one of the following options:

Take two obliterators (This is my recommended option, as obliterators will deal with any tanks that come along, and can also turn on infantry just as easily),
Take a squad of 10 Lesser Daemons (Furies) AND add another raptor to the raptors squad (This is my second favourite option of the three, it may have less anti tank capability, but it DOES give you a third scoring unit),
OR add another squad with the following setup:
    Chaos Marines - 115 Pts (6 Models)
Plasma Gun, Icon of Chaos Undivided.
    Rhino -35 points.

This list adds more melta guns for anti tank, and removes one raptor squad, as two 6 man squads is way too many non scoring, non tankbusting units for this points game, and in this list.

    Good luck.
