    2000pts Nurgle Themed Army

    Hello everyone-

I've had the idea to do a Nurgle themed army for awhile now, so I figured no time like the present! I'm going to be playing in an upcoming tourney soon and drew up this list.

    HQ: 320
    Great Unclean One
    Great Unclean One

    Elite: 140
    Beast of Nurgle x2
    Beast of Nurgle x2

    Troops: 906
    Plaguebearers x13
    Plaguebearers x13
    Plaguebearers x12
    Plaguebearers x12
    Nurglings x6
    Nurglings x6

    Heavy: 630
    Daemon Prince x3
    -Flying, Ironhide, MoN, Noxious Touch

    Total pts: 1996
    Total models: 71

    1st Wave:
    GUC
    BoN (both units)
    PB (13 man unit) x2
    Nurglings

    2nd Wave:
    GUC
    PB x2
    Nurglings
    DP x3

Let me know what you all think, and if you have any comments/critiques! Thanks!

It is unusual to see an all Nurgle list without using Epidemius. Have a read of his special rules and seriously considder him in place of one of your HQ slots. Even if he dies relatively early he can still force the enemy to put lots of firepower into his unit to kill him an you get some benefits even with the tally at quite low levels.

HQ: Cloud of flies is a must. Considder epidemius.

Elites: Not great. They act about the same as 2 Plague bearers but cost more and are not scoring.

Troops: All Good. With Nurglings being none scoring considder more plague bearers but Nurglings are faster and if the Tally of Nurgle can get to the maximum then Nurglings kill wraithlords with ease. I would get 2 icons in the list (one in each half) to help bring down units.

Heavy: Get cloud of flies. It's so cheap as to be almost mandatory. You keep I5 when assaulting into cover and can discount 30 attacks from a charging ork mob. If you take epidemius then gaze can be a nice use of the BS5 of a prince.

Mad cat's got it. Epi is crucial to a Nurgle list. Your big gribblies won't last forever, so you need something to pick up the slack.

Cloud of flies is great on a GUO, Breath isn't bad either.

You can drop the PBs down to 10 or so, except for Epi's unit. Nurglings are great.

Beasts are quite good with the tally up, plus they're cheap enough to run around screening, distracting, and generally being annoying. Good escort for Epidemius.

    DPs are rock solid.

If you ask me there's no reason why a Nurgle army can't be perfectly capable without Epi. I think the units you chose are fine as they are.

However I would consider dropping several plague bearers (nurglings will pick up the slack) and getting flies on the GUOs (no reason to ever not have flies on them) and beefing up your beasts, maybe adding at the very least 1 more per squad and definately giving one noxious touch.

Two plague bearers are in no way "as good" as Beasts. I'm sorry but D6 vs A2 is not as good odds, and multiple wounds with eternal warrior means that even if they take a wound they still fight. Also adding noxious touch to a squad with multiple wounds makes that squad a complex unit with multiple wounds, meaning you allocate, slightly increasing their chances of survival. Plus D6 noxious touch attacks is a potential for 5 more noxious touch attacks that a plague bearer squad can't get. It simply cannot be argued which are better, plague bearers are not better for anything but objectives.

Lastly if, you have any points leftover consider giving at least one of your DPs unholy might rather than noxious. You'll generally do the same dmg vs MEQs but that extra Str will make you more anti-tank capable, which you'll need. And the only thing you'll miss out on is the poison reroll to wound, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I still like the idea of trying to run two GCU's though. I've changed the list a bit to add some stuff you guys suggested. Let me know what you think.

It's nurgle cheese cake, I respect that! Nurgle by it self w/o epi is just Ok personally. I can't argue though you've said what you like and I can't change your opinion. So I'll change your list .

Beasts and nurgling are reat for tying units up in combat but they dont get beastly till full tally. The only thing you really have going for you in CC are your princes, and yor GuO's if thats what your going to lean on I reccomend 3 breath, hide, and CoF princes, at the expense of losing a few units here or there. I just think that would a bigger distraction/Fire magnet rather than what you already have. MAd Cat had a point, although I think you changed it,(can't remember)

i'm curious to know how it playtests though.

Maybe if you got rid of a Deamon Prince you could have a soul-grinder, it would provide you with some ranged units.
