Hi all. Been lurking for a while and now I need your expertise and help.
I am building up a Daemon army to take part in a small friendly 1000 point tournament. I will be playing separate games against Marines, Nids and Chaos Marines.
So far here is roughly what I'm thinking (I am in work right now and not next to my codex so please forgive any glaring mistakes).
HQ - Keeper with Musk
Troops - 10 Bloodletters + 10 Horrors (with changeling)
Elites - 5 Fiends
Heavy Support - 1 Grinder with Phlegm + 1 DP of Nurgle with Noxious
I think that's close to 1000points but let me reiterate that this is my first attempt and I will be playing different style of armies with this.
Thanks for any and all help.
That looks pretty good, it's got a good mix of units, some anti-tank and fast stuff.
Horrors could use Bolt and I'd field the Grinder for now. Nurgle Princes are awesome, but they usually need to be tricked out (wings, iron hide, and so on).
Thanks for the reply ==Me==. I was hoping you would reply.
What do you mean when you say
"I'd field the Grinder for now. Nurgle Princes are awesome, but they usually need to be tricked out (wings, iron hide, and so on)."
I was kinda trying to field both. Do you think I should just stick with Grinder and put the points from the DP on something else?
Try either two grinders or two DPs (with iron hide MON and Noxious Touch) a fully kitted out grinder comes to the same price as Dp (as above) and if its standing still (which it shouldn't!!) then you can fire both weapons! I'd say the Soul grinders unless you're doing a nurgle only list, (which you aren't). But with such a small points cost it'll be very vulnerable on your first turn so make sure your HARD stuff drops in first.

D yopu know what kind of nid army it'll be? Cus if it's big nasties then your armie may struggle if tis little nasties it should do okay.
2 Soul Grinders? Ouch, that's going to hurt the old wallet :p
I have read that DP's survive longer and can be just as useful as Grinders but as I have not tried either I am going by what you guys here say.
The only thing I know about the Nid army is that my opponent is a new player who will read all tactics about them before making a list. He will go with an army that can compete with Marine Equivalents as well as being as effective as he can against Daemons. I have no idea what he will field however as I dont know Nids very well.
This is our first friendly tournament and we are all older players. I expect the armies to be very well thought out.
Thanks for the replies. It's helping me out.
Oh, missed the "+", I though you had a choice between the two.
DPs are generally more survivable, but at 1000 points there isn't much to threaten 2 Grinders. Grinders still have AV13 and have excellent shooting, fleet, and can mix it up in combat as well. For an all purpose list, I prefer Grinders.
Ahhh ok. I must admit fielding 2 grinder does give me a giggle. I can only imagine my opponents face.
Are there any other changes you guys would make apart from that?
Honestly i think its a very well thought out list cus you've got a bit of everything in it. its just a matter of going either 2 sould grinders (i know they're expensive but theyre worth every penny!!)or 2 DPs but to be honest you'll do fine with the one SG and one DP its just its more specific if you have 2 of one. But against those armies you'll want something able to take out alot of stuff (gaunts) and to take away those 3+ saves from those marines (whether chaos or the emporers') soul grinders is your best bet! also try bolt of tzeentch in the horrors its pretty useful when your trying to take out terminators!
I'm intrigued how were you going to split these up into your different factions?
Depends on your play style man, I for instance "long for combat" so I dislike tzeentch. I also come up with some of he cheesiest lists for daemons! Like for instance in your case 1000 points you can take a Bloodthirster, 18 plaguebearers and 3 phlegm grinders.
However; the list you've created isn't bad. My biggest issue with it is that you've chosen the 2 most expensive troop choices to field. Why not something like 8 plaguebearers, 20 ( 2X10 man) daemonettes, 5 blood crushers, a phelgm grinder and a BT?
It has speed, can hold objectives, and has good combat potential.
Thanks for the replies guys.
I really am not sure how I will split these units up. I have never played with Daemons before and the deployment will be a huge change for me. Suggestions are welcome.
To Girlhunter2102: The reason I have choosen these units is that the Bloodletters will destroy marine equivalents in CC. Fiends are fast and can do some real hurt to just about anything. The Horrors will enable me to take care of my opponents dangerous assault trorps (Genestealers for example - at least I hope they will). The Keeper may not be as good as a BT but its cheaper and I feel that with Musk the option to jump from Combat to combat is to good to pass up. Grinder is a must and the DP was to mix it up and see what I prefer between Grinder and Prince.
The list you suggested doesnt seem as fast except for the BT.Crushers are the same as troops and from what ive read Daemonettes are too weak to be effective. I know your list has more scoring units and the PB would be good to hold objectives. I just feel that I need more mobility with the fiends.
After looking at the codex last night I can keep the same list I have and add 1 grinder with no extras and get rid of the DP. I'm not sure if a "naked" grinder is better than the Prince? What you think?
I would also love to know how you would split this army up.
