So this is my first time posting here although I've been reading these forums quite a bit lately and have tried to incorporate the ideas into my theme and see where I end up.
Daemon Prince - Wings, MoT, Bolt of Change, Wind of Chaos
(Yes I know lash princes are better but I'm going with black legion as a force with khorn and Tzeench and I've spent so much time converting this stupid daemon prince that I don't think I can use him as anything else lol)
Chaos Space Marines x10 - Plasma guns x2
Zerkers x8 - Skull Champ w/ Power Fist
Thousand Sons x9 + Sorcerer - Bolt of change, Rhino + combimelta
Chosen x10 - Flamerx2, Meltagun x2, Champion w/ Powerfist, Rhino + combimelta
Obliterators x3
Defiler - stock no changes
Havocs x5 - Autocannons x4
I included points because if anybody sees some places to trim some fat then that would be okay. I understand that plague marines w/ plasma guns would probably bebetter than my thousand sons and a lash prince but these are the models I have. The other things I have put together are a land raider, 10 terminators, 2 dreadnaughts, 5 more chaos space marines and another 8 more thousand sons. That's what I got to work with folks. Any and all help is greatly appreciated
HQ: Good for you for no lash. I like MoT, Wings, warptime and doombolt. He rerolls shooting and combat hits & wounds and becomes a real killer.
Elites: Can't see the need for them to be chosen apart from the outflank. Better I think to drop them to a troops choice with 2 mentas and a champ with PF and maybe a combi weapon for him and/or the rhino. They then become scoring and save you some points.
Troops: Berserkers need a rhino. 1K sons who are relentless can plod and fire so can do without their's. Get doombolt on the sorceror champ as you waste a lot of AP3 bolter fire just to shoot a tank with one under powered lascannon. Standard CSMs need IoCG.
Heavy: Defilers should be 2xCCW. If the battle cannon is shot off just fleet into combat.
Oblits are good. Havoks are ok but an extra body or two would be nice.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
I really like the Chosen as they are because I need some kind of swarm handling capacity and gods know I don't want to send my poor berzerkers into a group of genestealers or a mob of boyz without softening them up with some flamer fire.
Same goes with the reason I didn't change out the weapons on the defiler for 2 mroe CCW, I've been finding much more luck taking out light armor with the reaper auto cannon or decimating a group hiding in cover with the heavy flamer followed by an assault.
I've also been toying with the idea of switching the rhino to the berserkers so I think I'll go with that advice probably.
The theory behind my army (as it was in this iteration) was to have my chosen outflank and pop either their heavy vehicles that have been sitting around pounding my guys or some snipers or some lootas or something along those lines and from what I've played with them it's worked beautifully thus far. You are correct that I am a bit short on troops as far as objective taking (that was also a problem last game). Meanwhile my thousand sons would be waiting for a MEQ to get over exposed and then rapidfire 18 shots that they won't get saves against, however lately it has not really been working out like that.
Oblits were for taking out heavy things, autocannons for light mechanized/transports/putting pressure on larger groups of tougher to wound creatures before they can get to me.
The other idea I've been toying with is dropping the squad of Thousand sons and using 2 squads of lesser daemons and shifting the Rhino to the zerkers. That way when the Chosen outflank and pop something nasty out of a transport I can deep strike a couple squads of daemons and with a charge when they first come in to tie up combat or hold/contest an objective later in the game. That would also leave me with enough points to pick up 2 IoCG for the chosen and space marines.
I also like the idea of warptime for my prince, but I think I'm gonna stick with wind of chaos because I've converted the top half of 2 dragon heads into one of his fists and I figure "what better place for demonic warp fire to spew from?".
