This is sort of about army building so I figured I would post it here instead of the main forum. I apologize if it needs to be moved.
Anyways, I'm new to Chaos and haven't played WH40k in awhile. My brother decided to put together an army. He is going to field Abaddon and a unit of 4 Terminators as an escort for him, mounted in a land raider.
So.. my brother wants them all to be champions, armed with chain fists and their twin linked bolters. First of all, is this an okay build?
Secondly, what is the best method to buy this unit? I noticed the boxed set it has the option to build one champion. Now, if they are all champsions, does that mean I should just buy the seperate miniature for all 4? Is there an option with the miniature to make it have a chain fist? Is there enough chain fists in the terminator box to outfit all the terminators with chain fists?
Thanks a bunch!
Well I will try to answer these questions for you. First of all the most prevelant build is the "Karmoon Special". That would be 5 termies with a Heavy Flamer and combi weapons on the other 4. Cheap cost and very effective. The combi weapons can be changed to the opponent you face but most used is flamers. I would recommend changing all the bolters to combies at the very least as it adds versatility for a measily price.
As far as making the models themselves... that's up to you. I like to try and model everything "what you see is what you get". I even went as far as buying Sonic Blaster blisters for all my Noise Marines. That's just the way I am. If this is the kind of person you tend to be Ebay will be your savior. You can find bits and pieces all over for very good prices. There will not be enough Chainfists in the box set to satisfy an all Chainfist build so you will have to shop around. Asking other players at your local store is a good way to get bits too.
Hope this helps, and good luck with the build... your list may be your hardest task in Chaos. There is just too much good stuff
Rakur, if you're brother is looking to make a competitive army, then Abby with an expensive retinue is, to be honest, the last thing he should do. However, Warhammer is first about having a good time, so with your permission, I'm advising you to look at Karnaj's suggested Karmoon Special. It's cheap and highly effective. Your brother shouldn't make the mistake of taking an expensive c.c. termi retinue for Abby, as Abby is plenty capable of dealing with nigh on anything he fancies, and on his own. Given this, the Karmoon Special is a nice buffer unit that produces a decent number of short range kills. Although, I do have one bone of contention with what Karnaj said: The typical and by far the most popular Karmoon Special utilizes combi-plasmas (not combi-flamers) :p .
Be sure you read through the Independent Character information in the Core Book, concerning Abby's 'targetability' by your opponent.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Haha. Oops, Rabbit is correct, of course. That is the beauty of combi-weapons however. You don't need to determine which type of combi it is until the game itself. The points for the unit will always be the same and you can adjust to the type of list you will be facing, without having to change your list.
As far as doing that in a "what you see is what you get" manner... magnetization is my friend.
