    1500pts Slaaneshi Daemons

    Hey folks,

Been a while since I actually planned and finished a 40k army in full. I believe the last army I completed for 40k were my Tau, which I started back in 3rd edition, and still game with now. With the recent completion of my 2k Skink army for Fantasy, I want to do the same thing-get a brand new army, get it painted in the space of a couple of months, and have it as a pick-up-and-play army for friendly games, with the potential for some tourney changes.

So, after going through many many choices of armies (several different Eldar lists, couple of Marine lists, a new Guard list, another Tau list, a Nid list...) I'm looking into a Slaanesh themed Daemons list. I know I'm limiting myself by only taking one set of Daemons, but for me one of the problems with both the 40k and Fantasy lists is the ability to mix-and-match your Gods. So, Slaanesh it is!

    Anyway, here be the list:

    The Masque

    Herald of Slaanesh
    -Chariot of Slaanesh
-Soporific Musk; Pavane of Slaanesh; Unholy Might

    Herald of Slaanesh
    -Chariot of Slaanesh
-Soporific Musk; Pavane of Slaanesh; Unholy Might

    10 Daemonettes
    -Chaos Icon; Instrument of Chaos

    10 Daemonettes
    -Chaos Icon; Instrument of Chaos

    10 Daemonettes
    -Instrument of Chaos

    10 Daemonettes
    -Instrument of Chaos

    Daemon Prince
    -Mark of Slaanesh
-Daemonic Flight; Iron Hide; Instrument of Chaos; Unholy Might
    -Soporific Musk; Pavane of Slaanesh
    -Daemonic Gaze

    Daemon Prince
    -Mark of Slaanesh
-Daemonic Flight; Iron Hide; Instrument of Chaos; Unholy Might
    -Soporific Musk; Pavane of Slaanesh
    -Daemonic Gaze

Yes, the Daemon Princes are each worth 275pts. Don't jump me, I'm running a Skink list where my 3 characters constitute just under 1500pts!

Deployment plan is to split the army down the middle, 2 virtually identical halves, with the Masque in the first strike half. If she comes down, awesome. If not, meh. Get the first 2 units of Daemonettes close to the enemy but near cover, ready to run into it, if possible; Herald just jumps into the middle of enemy lines to try and take some shooting. An expensive fire magnet, but if he survives, boy will he have some fun. The Daemon Prince is going to try and get reasonably close while still staying in some cover if at all possible. After that, it's target priorities-pair each Daemonette unit with either a Prince or a Herald, and go tag-team stuff. The Masque can run around lolling at stuff. The 7 Pavanes a turn is also rather amusing, and should hopefully allow me to have at least some control over the enemy's positioing.

Anyway, do let me know what you think. Probably going to pick up the Daemonettes on saturday to make a start on them. My basic ideas for the Princes and Heralds are...

Princes: Keepers of Secrets w/ classic Dragon Wings or Balrog Wings
Heralds: Masque with alterations, riding High Elf chariot, drawn by Hounds of Orion.

    Thanks folks!

Slaanesh has some strong units, it can work well if a bit fragile.

    Here's the rundown.

KoS: Hittiest Slaanesh unit there is, kinda fragile with only a 4+ invulnerable, Might and Musk.
Sherald: cheap, chariot, musk, anything else is gravy
Masque: 3+ isn't that hard to get through, Pavane is nice
Daemonettes: Yuck, too bad they're compulsory.
    Fiends: AWESOME
Seekers: Daemonettes with +1A and extra 6" of charge. Not quite Fiends, but decent.
Prince: Who needs Flight or Fleet when you've got Pavane.

Your list looks ok. The Princes suck up too many points (Musk, Aura, Pavane, Hide, Might is all you need) and you don't need icons since everything is so fast.

Also, get Fiends. They rock face.

My only dislike of Fiends is the models-however, the Hounds of Orion which I've looked at as beasts to draw the Chariots may work OK. Anyway, here's a little rehash of the list based on your advice:

    The Masque

    Herald of Slaanesh
    -Chariot of Slaanesh
-Soporific Musk; Unholy Might; Daemonic Gaze

    Herald of Slaanesh
    -Chariot of Slaanesh
-Soporific Musk; Unholy Might; Daemonic Gaze

    15 Daemonettes

    15 Daemonettes

    6 Fiends
    -1 Unholy Might

    6 Fiends
    -1 Unholy Might

    Daemon Prince
    -Mark of Slaanesh
    -Iron Hide; Unholy Might
-Aura of Acquisience; Soporific Musk; Pavane of Slaanesh

    Daemon Prince
    -Mark of Slaanesh
    -Iron Hide; Unholy Might
-Aura of Acquisience; Soporific Musk; Pavane of Slaanesh

The Fiends look pretty darn nasty on paper, I must say. Anyway, let me know what you think of the two lists. Thanks!

I like the new list better, just swap out Gaze for Pavane on the Sheralds and you're good to go. Alternate models for Fiends are easy enough to find, I know people use Chaos Spawn or Cold Ones.

I like the list, but I think you need more troops. With only 2 troops choices you'll struggle with objective missions imo.

When I look at this army, I see an army who can only really win objective mission by wiping out the enemy.

That said, ive played a pure slaanesh army and wiped out opponents before turn 5, with the new combat res rules, if you can win combat by a decent amount your chances of a sweeping advance is very high.

I was thinking a similar thing, which is why I considered breaking the Daemonettes into 3x10. Is it worth losing the extra gals in each squad, or will it make each squad too vulnerable?

You mostly want 'nettes around because you have to have them. Keep them alive as top priority. Fiends and DPs can handle anything else and if they go down your 'nettes don't have much chance anyway.

The basic 1500's you're going to see floating around Cali consist of

    HQ
    KoS
    Musk
    Might

Troops 50 daemonettes (2X20 one 10 to drop late)

    4 fiends

2XPavane, breath and hide princes (MOS obviously)

There's 5 of us daemon players at my local shop, we kind of band together and come up with bizarre lists.

For pure slaanesh something along the lines of:

    2 KoS/musk

    6 Fiends
    6 Fiends
    6 Fiends

    Daemonettes x10
    Daemonettes x10
    Daemonettes x10
    Daemonettes x10

    Demon Prince of Slaanesh/ BoC/Pavane/Musk
    Demon Prince of Slaanesh/ BoC/Pavane/Musk
    Demon Prince of Slaanesh/ BoC/Pavane/Musk

Might put on +str upgrades on DPs and KoS. My codex is in my car right now but this is roughly what I would do for pure slaanesh. I will update this post with exact set up and totals.
