Hello fellow chaos players, ever since starting chaos ive loved every bit of them, and I recently hit my 750 point mark, now im going to 1k and im wondering if my current plan/army is a decent choice and if people could tell me what the strengths of it seem to be and some tactics I could use with the set up, so here it goes
-Champion with Power Weapon
-Plasma Gun (as much as ive heard that these can be great, ive had the worst luck in the 4 games ive played so far with him and hes rolled either a 1 on the to hit roll or a 1 on the to wound)
-Mark of Chaos Undivided
8 Berzerkers with a Rhino
-Skull Champ w/ powerfist
Rhino = plain at 35 points
-Champion with powerfist
-1 Melta gun ( or Flamer depending on army)
If i can spare the points, which is hard to do, id have a 2nd melta and a banner of chaos undivided but like i said ill be over the 1k mark by about 30 points
-two close combat arms
1007 points total, but if i added the banner to bike and 2nd melta itd be 127 points
I'd scrap the dreadnought for more troops. Together with the 10 CSM group you have 320 points. That gets you 2x 7 CSM's (Plasmagun + Rhino) + 10p.
This also happens to put you back under the 1kp (997p)
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic or the work of god..."
Hello all, Ive been putting together and playing around with my 1k point CSM army, and currently my two troops choices are 10 CSM with plasma gun/Heavy bolter (for an general use purpose) that foot slog, and then 8 khorne berzerkers in a rhino. I cant really afford to add a rhino to my 10 CSM in this list with the stuff I have chosen so I was wondering if its hindering me greatly by having only 1 of my 2 troop choices in a rhino, and what tactics I can try to use with my foot slogging CSM.
And also, Im having a bit of trouble deciding on what to have my heavy support be for my 1k points, I can get two oblits or 1 defiler but im not too sure whats a better choice, the Defiler just seems awesome and fun to use to me, but my only anti vehicle/armor weapons would be on a bike squad of 3 im using that has 1 melta or so.
annnnnd finally, Im currently running my bike squad with 3 members, how crucial/necessary is it that I have a champion? and one with a power fist? because if i can eliminate including a champ I can cut down the points alot and fit what i want into my 1k list, and include 2 meltas in the squad

I would check out the tactica , it answers a lot of your questions and probably any other basic army build questions you might have in the future.
To answer a couple of them:
1)Having a very small amount of armored vehicles in an army is like painting a big "shoot your big guns at me" sign on them. Taking one defiler is likely going to end with the defiler dying very quickly because of all the focused fire, or at the very least having its gun taken out early on, making it a very expensive cc unit.
2)I'm not sure how you have them set up, but I would get 1 10man squad with 2 plasma guns, and 1 10man squad with 2 meltas. Skip the heavy bolter(if you want it get some havocs so they can carry more than one). Heavy bolters really aren't worth it when you just have one, when you could instead have multiple plasma/meltas and your squad is already equipped with fairly good bolters. If you really want a heavy weapon in that squad I would go for something with a bit more punch like a lascannon/launcher/autocannon.
3)For your heavy weapon unit you may also think of havocs. High number of heavy weapons at a fairly low cost. You don't get the versatility to choose like an oblit, but you can get a lot more weapons to fire. You lose deep strike + invul save, but a 5+ invul save isnt really going to save your bacon very well. Not saying 2 oblits are bad, and they are definitely better imo than one defiler, but you should weigh the options and figure out exactly what you want that heavy weapons unit to do.
If you want quantity of shots at a lower cost, go havocs, if you want versatile heavily armored units with potential for greater single damaging shots than havocs, go oblit. Plasma cannons are a thing of beauty, I cannot deny.
4)You're not really foot slogging if you have multiple rhinos =p. If you decide to do away with the rhino(s) you might think about plague marines or thousand sons instead of berzerkers to soak up some damage while you move forward or add icons to one or more of your regular csm squads.

Murfywat, this thread is more or less functioning in the same way as your army list thread, so I'm combining them into one, under the army list sub-section
*uses secret magical dust to combine threads as one*
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Shouldn't you berzerker unit cost 243pts.
Consider giving your daemon prince the mark of nurgle.
I think you would be better off with a multi melta, cover saves generally stop the plasma cannon being very effective.
Chaos space marine squads want dual special weapons, meltaguns are the best choice for this. Champions aren't really needed. Is that extra rhino for them? Also consider running plague marine squads instead of these. They are tougher but you will have smaller squads.
I think these would be better as a cheap suicide unit, 3 bikes with 2 meltaguns would work well.
