I have been playing Chaos for a while now and have a nice collection of models. But it seems that when i go to make an army list all of my stratagy falls out of my head and i just go for the shiny things. I would like to make a well rounded list and would like some input. I am not going to add in the points cost at this time just because i don't have the codex infront of me.
D. Prince w/wings, MoS, LoS.
10 Zerkers: w/champ (Power Fist), Rhino
10 Noise Marines: w/sonic weapons, w/champ (Power Weapon), Rhino
9 1K Sons: Sorc w/BoC
10 Plague Marines: w/champ (Power Fist), 2 Plasma guns
2 Dreadnaughts w/2x ccw
2 Defilers w/2x ccw
7 Havocs: 1 Lascannon, 2 ML, 1 Autocannon, IoGC
My thinking is to have the zerkers and noise marines to take the rhinos to a flank to support each other, have the 1k sons and plague marines footslog and hold objectives while supporting each other, and have the Dreads on the other flank running in. That leaves the Defilers eather hammering the center with the havocs with fire, or supporting the other units in CC.
Please let me know if i have my head on right or if i am just way out if left field on this. I also have CSMs, deamons, Land Raider, and a few other things at my disposal.
you are not looking for a theme as much as a strategy or tactics. the difference is one of scale, strategy is looking at a assesment of a battlefield and deciding what you want to do, tactics is how you do it. or in another word, strategy is what you have before a battle, tactics are what you have during the battle
ok, you are running a lash prince, there for you want pie plates to stack on top of the troops that have been bunched together out of cover. thats why you have defilers, but wouldn't plasma blasts be nice to add to that? your defilers are huge targets, big kill me first signs on them.
i used to say fill out those squads of berserkers, but i was taught the truth of a little less can be more. you want to kill most of but not all of what they charge on the first round, leaving enough so that they stick around, to be routed and sweeping advanced during your opponents turn, there by preventing your opponent from shooting them, and hopefully allowing you a charge during your next turn. 8 seems to be a popular number for this.
noise marines are expensive, but i continually find myself putting 8-10 of them out there myself and making their points back
havocs are hard to use, i just do not like static troops that if they move they can not shoot. though i really like the idea of loading up a rhino with 5-7 of them and popping out with 4 flamer templates on horde armies, or 4 melta guns, its like chaos has its own fire dragons, and we can take a charge
Ok i will have to try that i may have a game or two this weekend. Another question i have is, am i spending too many points on 4 troops? ie: cut down the numbers and take some CSM and or Deamons. Also i am kind of hopeing that the 2 dreads and 2 rhinos make my opponent have to split their anti-tank fire and also keep my D. Prince alive longer.
I just was thinking... Would it be better to put the 1k sons in the rhino instead of the Noise Marines? That way i am more apt to get rapid fire with the nice AP, while the Noise marines can lay down a high volume of fire. Also i don't have to worry as much about bad rolls trying to move the 1k sons.
it depends on how many points you are playing what you should take, i have trouble fitting more than 2 troops in 1000 points, and more than 3 in 1500.
thousand suns in a rhino is debateable, it is very nice to get them into that range, but putting them in a rhino means you do not get to shoot till in that range, and since every thousand sun has the inferno bolts you can be more effective footslogging, and since you do not usually want your 1ksons in CC getting them into rapid fire range may be counter productive. there are pros and cons to it, you have to decide which works better for you.
the noise marines have the same arguement except they have ccw and bolt pistols and a high init, making them actually very good in CC, and if you give them a champion with a doom siren are very deadly, but putting them in a rhino means you can not use those wonderful assault 2 bolters until they debark. generally people that use their noise marines for assault troops do not give them the sonic blasters
plague marines are a perfect tarpit, with their higher toughness and FNP they can hold a unit in place or hold an objective better than anything else. you can also use the fnp as an additonal save against gets hot and with blight grenades using them to rapid fire does not hurt as much when they get charged. if you are using sonic weaponry i would put your berserkers and plague marines in them and have them be your forward troops while your noise marines and thousand suns form your defensive back field.
most likely your dreads will not distract from your defilers, especially with your lash prince. a vindicator may work well though and a lash sorcerer as backup for your prince hidden in some troops
Ok well i played a 750 point game this weekend and did well. My list consisted of:
D. Prince MoS, Wings, LoS
8 Noise Marines w/champ (Power wapon, Sonic Blaster) 6 Sonic Blasters, 1 Blastmaster, icon
8 Berzerkers, icon
4 Termi 1 heavy flamer, 3 combi plasma, 1 chainfist
The Termi squad was unable to do anything. My apponents armor was to close to the board edge to deepstrike safely so they went to flank and scattered badly, they got shot to death... o well it was my cheap unit.
The noise marines were the real worker in the list. takeing out more they anyone elese, I was glad that my Blastmaster made his points back in the first turn. I keep hearing that it is a waste of points but it work well this time and i was glad i took it. The berzerkers did not do much till the end. They stayed in cover till my opponent looked like he was going to get the charge on me with his HQ squad next turn, so incomes the lash them to the berzerkers, and get the charge on them. :-)
All in all i think it was a sucsess i did end up with the win. I just hope that I can stay focus enough to not rush the berzerkers in to a whole army by themselves and to start a winning trend.
