Hey guys, this is my so far CSM army and not sure what to do with it at the moment. I have 51 points left and am not sure if I can put summoned demons in to fill up the spot but here goes. Only thing I don't understand about summoned lesser daemons is that if they cost 13 points ea or 13 points for a squad?
Anyway, here's my list so far
Chaos Space Marines x 5
Khrone Bezerkers x 5
- Chaos Rhino
- Skull Champion
Chaos Bikers x 3
- 2 meltagun
Total Count: 449pts
51 pts to add in.
Thanks, Sorry that I posted this in the wrong place
I made a 500 pts list, which might prove pretty interesting.
I put in a cheap lash sorc, a vindicator, and 2X5 CSM squads to fill it up. i don't have it with me, so I do not know the exact equipment and such.
But I think, most of the strong list on 500 pts consist of 2 squads and something nasty.
IMHO, bikers are expensive, even more on 500 pts. loose em.
berzekersers are nasty, but also, a little expensive on 500 pts. you don't want to do anything crazy. and berzerkers are better in large numbers.
I agree bikes are too expensive for space marines, especially in 500 points where you do not have a lot to spend. If you make both of your troops 5 man, give them each a rhino, a cheap sorcerer, maybe with lash or warptime, and you might be able to squeeze a defiler in there.
otherwise at 500 a cheap DP with wings and warptime and as many troops as you can squeeze into rhino's. power fists on champions and melta's or flamers in squads
Alright, re-arranged the army list and here's what I got (using the advice from both of you guys):
- Jump Pack
Chaos Space Marines x5
Chaos Space Marines x5
11 (corrupt) souls,
Make that Jump Pack a pair of Wings instead. You lose the ability to Deep Strike, but still get to ride in transports. ("Moves like Jump Infantry" is the key wording here.) Alternately, replace him with a Daemon Prince. A Winged Warptime DP costs 155, only ten more than your Sorcerer, and he's much more survivable and killy.
For your troops - consider Cult Marines. (Warning: I'm a Nurgle player, so I am biased here)
Plague Marines give you two special weapons regardless of unit size, and will survive incredible punishment. Nothing like seeing SoBs need 6's to wound, and then having FNP to back up your 3+ armor save.
Tzeentchie Thousand Sons are, quite frankly, FAR too expensive for a 500 point list, with their minimum cost running something like 162 points for four Rubrics and a Dombolt Sorceror - but they DO give you a healthy dose of anti-marine dakka. Just watch out - they're godawful in melee besides the Sorceror's Force Weapon/Inferno Bolt Pistol setup.
Berserkers are the premier assault troops in 40k, but they trade flexibility for KILL! MAIM! BURN! and having them fight alongside a Sorcerer is DOUBLE HERESY!
Noise Marines... are expensive. In RL money. Like, REALLY expensive. They have some great weapons, and the Doom Siren is pure win in a can, but their price is a rather sizable barrier, as well as costing 25 a piece with Sonic Blasters (which are the reason to take them)
As for your Heavy slot, I love me some Vindicator... but I would consider replacing it with a Defiler. You trade a point of Armor for superior Walker mobility, and more survivability in close combat. The Cannon will still Gib everything that needs to be gibbed, and does so at a longer range. Plus, Daemonic Possession is amazing. In Larger games the Vindicator gets better, thanks to the higher power for anti-armor duty, as well as the Dozer Blade to take cover more easily, but at 500 you don't have much to protect it from assaults, and rear ARM 10 is paper-thin.
Alright, so do you think that it still would be wise to use a rhino to get the merines a bit closer into range still though?
some people like footslogging troops, but i think the vast majority will tell you mechanized infantry is the way to go. If you choose to go footslogging it changes some of your heavy support choices, and makes it harder to use your rhino's to give your Daemon prince cover saves
I love cult troops, at what they do they are awesome, but they cost, for just about 2 plague marines i can get 3 CSM, for 3 berserkers i can get 4 CSM, for 3 Noise marines i can get 4 CSM( if i get sonic blasters becomes 2 noise marines get me 3 CSM. when you are scratching for points better to stick with CSM which are still very good.
For the points the DP is our most effective HQ, if your really scratching for points(or can not afford a good model), a sorcerer in with some troops can be effective.
If you are going to run rhino's you should be running armor to keep anti tank off your rhino's, this is the only reason i do not recommend Obliterators (They are the most flexible Heavy weapon choice we have, but they are infantry) or havocs( though a small squad of them in a rhino with 4 flamers or melta's cvan be very scary). In low points games i like using a Dread on the flanks, but as points increase over a 1000 i have trouble using him. Defilers are great, hard to get more distracting, and walkers do well in assualts. Preds and vindicators are nice too, they have slightly better armor, but can only tank shock or drive away from assault, which generally means they are not firing their weapons, which is why i have them.
Alrighty... I have reconsidered using a bit of your guys advice and I think I like this list. Although simplistic I think it can pack a punch and make the enemy run into some cover >

Total: 500 pts
The only reason why I didn't put the daemon prince into the army is because I wanted to spend that 10 points on putting something exta into the squads - Flamers. The defiler takes up alot of points in a 500pt army and am not sure if it's quite worth it at the moment. I have a feeling it is though.
