Hey, kinda new to 40k, some friends got me into it and I ebayed myself a pretty diverse arrangement of units and have been trying to put together an army to play. Friends play assault oriented Blood Angels (mephiston, death company, dreadnaughts, priests) and Grey Knights (not really worried about him, what with the Codex being awful) Necrons and Orks (ork players also pretty new). So I guess it'll be more of an all-comers type of list. Anyway, a couple ideas I had were as follows...
Daemon Prince of Nurgle x2
Mark of Nurgle
Icon of Khorne
All with Dual LC's
Icon of Chaos Glory
10 man CSM squad x3
Aspiring Champion w/Powerfist
Icon of Chaos Glory
+1 CCW (replacing flamers)
Idea is to outflank with the chosen and have them live long enough to drop the Terminator squads off of their icon, and the DP's/Defilers rush forward to assault while the CSM squads grab objectives/provide supporting fire. Dunno if possession is a waste of points on chosen rhino but it feels right Lots of high priority targets assures something can get through.
Other Idea was as follows:
Icon of Khorn
10 man CSM x2
Aspiring Champ w/Powerfist
9 man Berzerker
+1 CCW (replacing flamer)
Land Raider w/Possession
Abaddon joins the Termies in the Land Raider, Kharn rides with the 'zerkers and leaves the unit after disembarking, lots of high priority targets again.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Stick with your first list but tweak it. Here's what I would do.
HQ and the drop Termies are fine. Your other Termie unit doesn't do anything, they walk and die or Deep Strike and can't shoot, so minimizing your offensive potential. I'd get rid of them for something more useful.
The Chosen should be minimum size, with Meltaguns. Possibly a PF Champ if you feel like it. I'd say no to Possession, Rhinos blow up easily so don't be wasteful. A Combi weapon or Havoc Launcher would fit right in though.
CSM units look good but put a Combi on the Rhino. Combi weapons on Rhinos are one of the few advantages Chaos Marines have currently, use it.
Defilers look good.
To replace the Termies you could do 8 Noise Marines with Sonic Blasters and 1 Blastermaster, in a Rhino. They make exceptional objective campers and can still advance with your army in Kill Point games.
excess knows his crap. I agree. That second terminator squad would be best served as a clone to the first. Also, on my "tank-bust special trio extreme plus", I take a single chainfist. That way, if you run out of melta shots, they can still go cut a hole in a tank hull. Not a big fan of chosen, but you might try them, see how they work.
On your defilers, take either two ccw's or the ccw and the flamer. most people don't know, but you can either shoot the main cannon or all the other guns. at range, you're always going to shoot the cannon, not the reaper, and up close you're either going to just assault outright, or flamer+assault.
That's a start.
For these 305 points, instead of the termies, you could add 7 plague marines with 2 meltas and a fisty champ in a rhino with combi-weapon AND 4 combi-weapons to all the other rhinos.
They are better objective campers than the noise marines!

The advice was offered because Chaos has no units that can stay back and hold objectives without losing tons of effectiveness except basic Marines or Noise Marines. Plague Marines are better, but sometimes going all or nothing will lose a game.
