I wanted to try to create a force inspired by the Red Corsairs force that assaulted the marines errant chapter fortress. Sans Blackheart of course. The plan is to use the chosen to act as a teleport homer for the terminators . Upon landing these units will engage the hordes (flamer units), or heavily armored units (combi plasmas). The units will then assault the next turn. The obliterators will either be deep struck to hit tanks/transports in the rear armor, or be deployed behind cover to shoot tanks from afar.
The demon princes will be acting as a fast attack unit to chase down transports or other hard to reach units. They can also deep strike should there not be much terrain.
The zerkers will be augmenting the assault as well or knocking enemy troops off of objectives. The csm will be used for objective holding so the zerkers can move onto the main assault.
My friend brought up the valid point that I lack survivable troops to weather incoming fire for at least 2 turns. He suggested I drop a demon prince and chosen for another troops squad.

For assaulting a fortress, you'd naturally be in transports and using siege weaponry. I like the idea of using Terminators, but why not drop them to 1 or 2 3 Termie units with Combi-Meltas or Plasma? That's a more elite strike that hits hard and causes confusion. Right there you can save a ton of points.
You can get away with one Prince, but at least Mark it, Nurgle or Tzeentch with Warptime is a heavy hitter that will draw more fire.
You Zerkers need a PF Champion and the Rhino would really benefit from a Combi-Melta, also in theme for assault. The CSMs need to go up to 10, probably with a PF Champion and maybe a Combi on the Rhino. Combis on Rhinos are seriously under-rated for Chaos.
The Chosen should be minimum strength and in a Rhino, use them as Outflanking Tank Busters or horde killers. There's really no point in bulking them out, they're there to shoot not score.
With the points you could probably add a 3rd Troops, maybe a 4th if you add Demons. I'd put Icons on all your units, just as backup and because they're cheap.
Oblits are good, you can Deep Strike them but I'd take a long look at Defilers. They will take fire off your Rhinos which you need badly and provide some more horde and MEQ hate, plus assault punch.
Your post opened my eyes to the contradiction in my list. I was creating a list that was storming a fortress but with no siege weapons! I created a new list to reflect it. More of a chaos zilla list but it presents so many threats. After reading how to correctly use dreads during fire frenzy (they search for targets within their 45 degree sight first before pivoting, thus keeping the fire on the enemy for the most part).
Demon Prince, w/wings, MoT, warptime-
Chaos Space Marines (10 ) 2 w/ meltaguns champion w/ power fist -
Khorne Beserkers (8 ) skulltaker w/ powerfist-
Chaos Space Marines (10 ) 2 meltaguns-
Dreadnought w/ plasma cannon-
Dreadnought w/ missile launcher, cc weapon-
Predator w/ autocannon, lascannons-
I like everything but the Predator, I'd trade that thing in for Termies and Icons. What good siege force doesn't sometimes just go past the wall? ;] PF on the Champion less squad is also not a terrible idea. The Termies seem better though.
I had the same thought too. This leaves me with a lack of long range anti tank firepower as well. I know the termies would be fluffy but would they be the best synergy for the rest of the list? I know the termies could be armed with combi meltas and a chainfist to deepstrike behind enemy lines but wouldnt a regular pred be the best turn 1 defense against most enemy armor? (until it dies of course).
If I take out the pred ill have enough for 3 termies, 3 combi meltas, and a chainfist an icon of chaos glory. I just worry about the lack of long range firepower.
The list itself comes out to 1503 so I cant fit anymore fists . I figure the dreads will make up for the lack of one fist.
I think you have a decent amount of long range shooting, two Battlecannons isn't insignificant. Marines really are not a long distance army, it's about getting in someones face, so I'd maximize that.
I'd say go with a 3rd Defiler but you'd have to find 20 points, maybe a Vindicator? I just see a Predator getting abused if left on it's own.
I am thinking vindicator. Nothing quite says siege force like a giant gun lobbing one of the most powerful shells in the game.
On the other hand, the terminators could be teleported near the powerfist less squad to support in CC.
Ill try out the pred and termie variations. Ill see how well it performs.
