Hey guys, could you crit my list - haven't played 40K for ages (been all about the WFB lately) but I have been invited to take part in a friendly comp.
I'm using the models I have as I don't really want to shell out even more cash to GW's grasping maw just yet - I have some more options than here but not much.
(Oh, also I realise they are icons or whatnot, I can't stop just calling them marks :-))
MOT, Bolt of Change, Warptime.
MON, 5X Plas Gun
MOT, 8XChamp Powerfist, Chainfist, 2XCombi-Melta, Heavy Flamer
10X Plague Marines
Champ wth Powerfist, 2x Melta.
Rhino wth Combi-melta
10X Plague Marines
Champ wth Powerweapon, Plas Pistol, 2x Melta.
Rhino wth Combi-melta
MOK, Champ wth Lightning Claws, 2X Melta.
Twin linked Las, Las sponsons
Extra close combat weapon, H Flamer.
Plan is for Infiltrating the Plas-Chosen for some early gunnery, Raptors to go tank hunting using cover and the plague marines to do what they do best - inc drive-by Melta.
Unsure weather to deepstrike the termies or march then up the board, expect the defiler and the pred will be taking the heaviest fire in the first couple of turns.
Let me know what you think
Sorcerers and Lords are nothing compared to the almighty winged Daemon Prince. MOT and warptime on one of them for a good CC machine. The main benefit is Eternal Warrior since your sorcerer will just get punk'd by a power fist.
The other issue is; how do you plan to deploy him? The plague marines are full, and he doesn't have wings to join the raptors. He's a lascannon/missile launcher shot away from being one-hit. Deffinately change to a DP
You've kitted them out correctly, only drop the plasma pistol. 2 meltas and a champ with fist is perfect - a combi melta on the rhino is great too when you have the points. However 10 of them is deffinately overkill. Knock the squads down to 7 strong (including champ)
I've fielded raptors in my list for quite a while and they did well for me. But I used them differently, 5 raptors 2 meltas. No upgrades no champ, a cheap squad to hide behind terrain as they advance and pop a tank - easily making there points back. Your squad is confused in its objective. The meltas want to pop tanks, the champ and mark want to take on infantry. If you want to take out infantry with them change the weapons to flamers; else equip the squad cheaply like mine or they don't make their points back.
I trialled a very similar unit, all plasma, in a rhino outflanking. Its deffinately worth considering and trying.
I'm not crystal clear on how your termies are equipped, but I'm not sure you are either. Footslogging termies across the field is a bad idea unless your Blood Angels with a priest and SS/TH squad. They either need to be broken down into tiny squads and deepstrike in, with a specific purpose (such as combi meltas for popping tanks). Look up Karmoon Special and see his reasoning behind that.
Tri-las pred's are scary, that's alot of lascannon fire. This makes it an extremely high priority target, chances are your enemy will target it from turn 1 and not stop until it explodes. My personal reasons for disliking predators altogether is the movement of them. You move 6" and can only fire one weapon, be that the turret and you've wasted those points on your sponsons. It's very rare your enemy will not break LOS with your predator forcing you to move to shoot at it.
Defilers are always a good choice - leave the flamer at home and just field these guys with 2 CC weapons. Fire the battle cannon every turn or fleet it into combat, no need to do anything else.
If you're set on the sorc, give him wings, drop BoC and throw him with the raptors which you'll give flamers to. Knock the plague marines down to 7 strong, break down the termi squads.
If you want anymore suggestions feel free to post what other models you have

HQ: I agree get a daemon prince with wings. Take one of the following
MoS + Lash
MoN + Warptime
MoT + warptime + Doombolt.
Elites: I don't rate the chosen. With such huge firepower they will hardly ever get a second shot. Would you alow them to live? A terminator with combiplasma has similar firepower and costs the same per model almost. For your elites take 3 termie units with combiplasmas or combimeltas. To each squad throw in a single PF or CF. If the squads are 4 men then take no icon. If they are 5 man units an icon may work. I like IoT or IoCG on termies.
Troops: Take 3 units of 7. Two melta squads with PF and rhinos and a single plasma squad on foot with no champ. Someone has to hold home objectives. Add combimeltas to the rhinos or even champs if you have points left over at the end. If you plan to deepstike termies from icons take personal icons in the mechanised squads.
Fast: Not great and 6 PMs in a rhino with meltas will do just as well and be scoring. 5 raptors who are very dangerous and relatively easy to kill won't last too long.
Heavy: Drop the pred to AC/2LC. Defiler should just take loads of CCWs.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
Not a fan of the nurgle champions. a nurgle champion is 23+15+25 points. 62 points is a bit steep; i'd much rather take those extra 40 points from each squad and start building a third squad. That's just me.
Doombolt is a waste of points. Wind of chaos is a much better choice, especially with MoT and Warptime. You get close, fire the template, wound on 4+, reroll fails (warptime) and there is no cover or armor save allowed. it's 25 points to take, but it's a lot better. Assault, it's not uncommon for at least 5 deaths in a squad before you even enter assault after firing WoC.
Completely agree with Hybrid's assessment of your terminators.
