Hi I'm starting out with Chaos and would like some advice. I have the CSM battle force(purely because I got it at half the price) so I've attempted to make a decent force with the box + extras.
The army is part competitive but part fun.
My main opponent will be BA using 3 LRs
10 Possessed CSM
AC -TL Bolter
AC - TL Bolter
AC - PF
Rhino - DP
AC - PF
Rhino - DP
As I said I'm new to Chaos but heres the idea:
Demon Princes get straight in to hit armour then troops.
Zerkers straight in to hit troops
CSMs get on objectives(CG icon to keep them from running, but LD 9/10, is it worth 10p?)
Possessed CSM are there because they come in the box and I don't really want to waste them, they could be fun or possibly even amazing? I don't mind dropping if there really bad.
Anyway feel free to leave some advice or criticisms. Really could do with some feedback here please, strengths weaknesses, pitfalls?
the battleforce at half off is a great deal, a squad of berserkers, and 2 squads of CSM, using the possessed parts to make some unique looking models.
ok 2 squads of 10 CSM, 2x meltas are preferred, get a fist on every aspiring champion and a rhino for each squad.
a decent rule of thumb is 1 troop/500 points.
so on top of the battle force you need 2 rhinos, and the DP's.
next priority is working towards heavy's, i prefer defilers or vindicators, their large blast with high str and low ap make them very threatening, so your troops will get where they need to be to win the game for you. you can use oblits, as they are very versatile, but they do not always draw the fire a vindicator or defiler can.
Don't mix and match special weapons in a CSM unit, you loose focus and can't count on your weapon doing what you want because of bad rolls.
You need rhinos to get your units in your opponents face (especially when you play berzerkers)
Units that you want in close combat need a powerfist so they at least have a chance against a dread and scare away independant caracters because of instant kill.
You need fire support so your close combat units can actually kill the contents of the vehicules of your oppenent instead of having to open the vehicules themselves.
Possessed are really a nice unit to look at but are totally useless in an army so I would drop them.
Your demon princes need warptime if you want them to be any good in combat. You are going for a khorne theme so give them warptime and call it khorns fury or what ever so it fits the theme and make your princes actually usefull.
To start you need fire support. Your best bet would be 2 X 2 obliterators or 2 X predators with autocannon and sponson lascannons. If you do not want to invest much and are willing to convert, 2 X 5 havocs with 3 missiles launchers will do the trick (missile launchers are really easy to convert and can even be made out of straws for really cheap)
At 1500 here is a list that would be okay and would use most of your models
2 X Demon prince, wings, warptime
2 X 5 chosen with 2 meltaguns, 2 flamers in rhinos
2 X 8 khorne berzerkers, champ with fist, personnal icon, rhino with combi-melta
1 X 8 lesser demons
2 X Predators with autocannon and sponson lascannons
