1 DP = 185
doombolt + warptime
8 bezerkers = 223 w/ dedicated rhino 50 (havoc launcher)
AC with power fist
10 chosen = 265
AC w/ power fist
1 dreadnaught w/ two twin-linked heavy bolters = 105
5 terminators = 230
AC with powerfist and combimelta
3xcombiplasma w/ power weapons
1 heavy flamer w/ power weapon
5 havocs =170
2x missile launchers
10 CSM = 225 w/ dedicated rhino = 50
AC w/ powerfist
1 plasma gun
1 heavy bolter
i'm still assembling them, but this is what i think i will use against my buddy's space marine army.
my excess units consist of 5 possessed and 20 more CSM.
is this a solid base?
the idea is to blitzkrieg. charge my rhinos up for rapid deployment. use the icon from my bezerkers to deep strike my termies. then outflank with the chosen. i'm hoping that the havocs, DP and dreadnaught just serve as an irritation distracting him from preparing for the full out assault that would happen in turn 2.
an interesting start, but you are a little lite on troops, you are mixing heavy weapons in your squads, stick with assualt weapons in your squads.
using CSM 2 meltas is ideal, they give you much needed anti tank. i would drop the chosen and the terms and the dread to add some good range anti tank, either defilers or oblits seem to be the popular choice, or you can use a vindi. after you get your troops squared and your heavy filled, then worry about the elites
i'll see if i have enough meltas to put in the squad. i don't have any tanks yet, neither does my buddy. that's why i structured the list the way i did. of course i want to get a defiler next and perhaps some obies. why do you think i should go with another csm squad over the chosen? sure they cost more, but i figured it was worth it being able to get into cc faster.
Quick note: Your dread is illegal. You can only have one heavy bolter arm.
Overall, your list will probably perform poorly against any decent MEQ opponent. For one thing, you've designed your list along the standard configurations we commonly see in our loyalist counterparts: I.e. heavy/special weapon mixing. CSMs don't really do this well. Instead, our codex tends to focus on dual special weapons as the staple configuration. Something like this:
10x Chaos Marines- 255 points
*2x melta guns
* 1x marine upgraded to a champion (power fist & glory icon)
Chosen: I'm having trouble seeing their role in your build. While you certainly have plenty of wounds (and inv saves), at the same time, the squad has only a small amount of firepower. I'd suggest dropping the unit down to 8 & swapping the Tzeentch icon for one of the following: Glory, Slaanesh, Khorne. For weapons, you might try 3 plasma guns or melta guns. This makes for a decent support unit at a respectable price. Alternatively, you could scrap the Chosen entirely and take another troop choice.
Havocs: While still moderately effective, in todays' tournaments, most Chaos players prefer Defiler or Oblits (or Preds). Reason being: More vehicles on the table equates to better protection for your rhinos and princes, which are our two main-stays.
If, however, you go with havocs, then the following two configurations work well:
*4x missile launchers
*3x missile launchers.
Don't mix heavy weapons. This ends up making the havocs less effective.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
chosen and terminators can not hold objectives, with 2/3 of game types being hold objective type this becomes important.
ok so i've modified my list pursuant to the feedback you've given me.
HQ: DP (same as above) 185
Elites: 8 chosen AC with IoK, plasma pistol, and 4 plasma guns 259
5 termies AC with PF and combi melta, HF with chainfist, 2 combi plasmas, and a reaper autocannon 255
1 dread with a twin linked heavy bolter and a twin linked bolter with CCW 105
troops: 8 bezerkers with AC, personal icon, and plasma pistol 203 plus rhino 35
10 CSM with AC with plasma pistol and PF, IoCG, 2 meltas 235 plus rhino 35
10 CSM with AC with PF 190
total : 1502
i would like to add my havocs for support, but that would push me way over, and my opponent has no armour anyway.
ideally i would like to have parity with my 2 CSM squads, but i just can't find the points to outfit them the way i'd like. is this going to come back to bite me?
so i trimmed some units to make the points 1200 instead of 1500.
DP with wings, warptime, MoT, bolt of change 200
8 chosen 4 PG, PP, MoK 249
10 csm AC w/ PP and PF, IoCG, 2 MG 235 2/ rhino 35
10 CSM AC w/PF 2 MG 210
8 bezerkers AC w/PF, PP 238 w/ rhino 35
the only concern i have is that i don't have any heavy support or long range attacks. i will be going up against devastators. is this going to pose a big problem considering my list?
