A couple of the guys at my local shop are hosting an escalation league. So for the first round of building/painting, I need 750 points. then every two weeks after that, I need another 250 points, until we get to 1750 pts.
My first army list I came up with is as follows:
Chaos Space Marines
1 CSM w/plasma pistol
1 CSM w/missle launcher
Rhino (i'm thinking for the berzerkers)
= 65 pts
= 155 pts
terminator armor wargear upgrade
M of Tzeentch
For my next round adding 250 points I want to add another unit of chaos space marines and another rhino. for the third round, I was thinking of swapping chaos lord for daemon prince and some more heavy support and maybe more CSMs.
Does that sound like a pretty solid plan? The only other thing I was thinking was losing one of the plasma pistols in the CSM squad and picking up a mark, possibly chaos glory.

Hey before I give my advice I would just like to point out that this thread should be in the army list subsection of CSM. (You'll get more comments that way too) Secondly, if a moderator sees this they will make you remove the individual point values per upgrade. Its okay to put the total pts per squad, but not on individual weapons or gear.
Alright to start off there isn't much point in getting a skull champion on berserkers unless your going to also give him a powerfist or power weapon (go with fist). The chaos space marines are upgraded really randomly. The twin linked, plasma pistols, and missile launcher all have conflicting roles. You can't shoot the launcher if your advancing, but you won't get in range to use plasma pistols unless you move. The rhino is too expensive, extra armour is almost never taken on vehicles since 15 pts isn't worth the slim chance to chance the result to crew shaken. Rhinos are best left completely plain as they will get destroyed fast anyways. Vindicator is fine, just keep is plain, maybe have the launcher but thats it. Lastly, a lord is decent in smaller point games, but you upgraded him to the point where a demon prince could be taken anyways. The lord in terminator armour also can't tag along in the rhino and would most likely be walking alone? I would use the following list:
160 Demon Prince + Wings, Mark of Slaanesh, warp time
208 8x Berserkers + Skull champion, Powerfist
170 10x Chaos Space Marines + 2x Meltaguns
140 Vindicator + havoc launcher
This revision will give each squad a transport and give you an HQ that can run around solo, ripping up enemy tanks. Your CSM squad is also capable of dealing with heavy infantry/vehicles now effectively with those meltaguns
For your next round I would consider adding a 7 man plague marine squad with rhino, champion, powerfirst, and 2x plasma guns. That would come to 999 total if you drop the havoc launcher on the vindicator.

Tau my love! You are back!
Please don't list individual point costs for models and/or upgrades. It's against forum rules and copyright infringement. I've taken the liberty of removing them. You can, however, include the total cost of squads, even if the squad is comprised of a single model.
Also, this thread belongs in the army list sub-section.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
@Rabbit - thanks for cleaning up the points values for me, didn't realize it was an issue
@kzqq - that's a great point about the weapon mix on the CSMs. Also, i guess i hadn't thought about just jumping up to the daemon prince since i already had a lord assembled. What is it that makes the plague marines better than another squad of CSMs?
Plague Marines have +1 Toughness, Feel No Pain and Blight Grenades. They can also have 2 special weapons when not in a 10-man-squad.
In other words, they are beefier, better objective holders and can deal with some stronger-heavier units at cc.
