I'm looking to compete in the "Seige of Nottingham" event hosted by my local gaming store but i'm a little stuck on putting together the best 400 point army list possible.
The event has some restriction which are listed below.
• Patrols are no more than 400 points.
• You must have one Troop choice.
• You may have one HQ choice, but no more than one.
• You may spend remaining points on anything in the Codex.
• No character can have more than 2 Wounds.
• No special characters.
• No 2+ saves.
• No vehicles with a total Armour value greater than 33.
• You must have a completed, detailed roster and access to the relevant Codex.
Taking the above into consideration, I've come up with the following army list based on my experience and what units I know out preform others.
2 x 5 Fiends
1 x 5 Horrors including changeling and bolt.
That's 400 points on the button.
I was also considering taking Masque which I don't use in my standard list but considering that no character can have over 2 wounds, she seems like a good choice.
Please submit any feed back or post what you believe would be the best possible 400 point list.
The event is on this Sunday so please don't hesitate to reply.
I would suggest taking one fiend off each unit, and making a unit of 9 horrors, with the changeling, for horrors at this level are devastating and 4 fiends is quite capable of killing anything they touch. With 9 horrors the unit will be harder to kill and you have something you can pump out 27 shots with the turn you drop, OUCH GAUNTS. Plus the horrors can climb into a fortification or ruins and sit there and shoot and shoot and shoot. The only major problem I ever have with these small games is lots of terrain and othe rplayers running speeder and raiders. Dark eldar at this level rock because they run cricles around our units and pick us off as we deep strike, so we need some we can blast back with.
At this level I always play
11 horrors with bolt
-deamon prince with gaze
-deamon prince with gaze
I just want to note that you can't use the Masque because it's a special character.
I would follow slann's suggestions as they are sound.
A few things I forgot to mention, first, the game can only go for a maximum of 40 min, the board size is 3 by 4, competitors are only allowed to deploy a maximum of 24" away from each other and the game type is annihilation.
I did consider increasing the amount of horrors to give that extra shooting power but based on the board and game type, I doubt i would get 2 rounds of shooting out of them before they are wiped out in assault. I feel that focusing on more hard hitting assault driven troops which can assault from 24" away, would be more effective with dealing with fast and slow moving armies but your point is taken.
Those who are interested, I came second.
The last game was against a nids player. He had 4 units of genestealers and 2 zoanthropes.
He won the roll off and decided to go first. He infiltrated his genestealers in every corner of the board, trying to close the gap between units the best as possible.
It was against me for the start. I lost the roll off, didn't get preferred wave and I had one unit of fiends mishap, rolled a 1.... by by... in a 400 point game... that's a huge loss.
Over all a good event, after destroying the field leading up to the final, i was very disappointed with the way it ended but these things happen.
