My local GW is running a challenge: You have to paint a 1500pt army (500pts/3 months) for either a new army or an existing army. I decided that my Dark Elves didn't need another 1500pts so I plumped for restarting my old Word Bearers army from scratch. I haven't played Chaos since the new Codex was released s here goes.
The list that follows is what I'll be adding over the 3 months in 500pt segments.
Kor Ageron the Damned, Daemon Prince - Wings, Warptime -
Phael Bhaelath, 8 Chaos Space Marines - Aspiring Champion with Powerfist, Meltagun, Icon of Chaos Glory
Phael Xsaroth, 8 Chaos Space Marines - Aspiring Champion with Power weapon, Flamer, Icon of Chaos Glory
Reinforcements for Phael Bhaelath, 4 Chaos Space Marines - Meltagun
Reinforcements for Phael Xsaroth, 4 Chaos Space Marines - Flamer
The Hounds of Kor Ageron, 10 Lesser Daemons -
The Anointed, 5 Chaos Terminator Champions - Heavy Flamer, Powerfist, Icon of Chaos Glory
Kor Phaeron, the Black Cardinal (Chaos Lord) - Powerfist, Personal Icon
Children of the Warp, 7 Lesser Daemons -
Fury of Ghalmek, Predator - Autocannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Havoc Launcher -
Warpstorm's Rage, Predator - Twin-linked Lascannon, Lascannon Sponsons -
That leaves 19pts to add on at the end of the 3 months. After the 3 months I'll be adding in more Lesser Daemons, maybe more Terminators, another 12 man squad, a Dark Apostle conversion, maybe a conversion for Erebus and Lorgar etc. Working on fluff for the background atm...something along the lines of Kor Phaeron attacking a planet, Kor Ageron leading some squads in to secure locations etc, then the Dark Apostle summons some Daemons etc to reinforce them then Kor Phaeron leads the final attack. Pretty damned ropey atm.
As mentioned, this is just a friendly challenge at a local GW, competitiveness never really entered the equation.
It really is a purely fluff(ish)/fun list. The Powerfist Lord is just a Powerfist Lord because the only artwork I've seen for Kor Phaeron has a "Powerfist" of sorts and a bolt pistol.
Is there a problem with Las-preds? It's only in the list for extra-anti tank stuff (to avoid relying solely on the DP and Meltaguns).
Rofl, you should probably have a look at some of my Dark Elf lists, competitiveness isn't really the focus when the list is written with me. Additionally, my foot-slogging Eldar was laughed out the store for having no vehicles...yet caused a fair few opponents to laugh on the other side of their faces when they lost to it.
All criticism is acknowledged and accepted though, you did take a few minutes out your day to reply at the end of it all.
Ok well for fluff I don't see any issues with it like I said. The only reason why I would not suggest a TL-Las Pred is due to the points cost to upgrade it, your better off using those points somewhere else. Seeing how you are light on vehicles anyway, have you thought about dropping the Preds for Oblits? They give you more bodies as well as just about any gun you would want to use, and they can be made to look really good with your Nurgle theme.
What Nurgle theme?
Preds vs Obliterators has been going on in my head for a while. The Predators do win out though, mainly because Obliterators are metal, aren't the best models to look at and the two Preds give me a dedicated anti-tank vehicle and a dedicated anti-personnel vehicle instead of a Jack-of-all-Trades unit. Plus the Preds are more survivable to S8+ weaponry than an Obliterator.
Not to say Obliterators won't be added at a later date. There are plans for this army after the Challenge.
I understand where you are coming from, it's just personal preference really.
I'd only make a change to the loadout of Kor Phaeron, you don't have him with a accursed crosius of any kind. As he is one of the two pre-eminent Dark Apostles, it's a bit of an oversight.
Here's an excellent pic of him: Kor Phaeron - Lexicanum
I really like how distinctive his crozius is, like it's half mace/half broadsword. When I did my Kor Phaeron, I combined that pic with the fluff from The First Heretic, so he has a lightning claw and the crozius in Terminator armour, and I run him as Abbadon. Might be a way to reach your monthly point goal if you've a busy schedule, use him as Abbadon and there's more than half your points for the month.
Hmm, my sources may be incorrect then. This is the Kor Phaeron artwork I was planning to base the Lord on.
No worries though. Kor Phaeron under Abaddon's rules is a good idea, although I've always been uncomfortable with "counts as". My original idea for a Dark Apostle was just a Chaos Lord with the Crozius represented by a Daemon Weapon and Personal Icon (an alternative idea was Chaos Sorcerer with Warptime). Did consider putting MoT on them but then it kind of detracts from the fluff.
Cheers for the help mate.
Haha, no worries mate.
