I'm gonna play in a tournament in about 2 weeks and I wanted some advice on how my list. There will be 1-2 Eldar players, 1-2 Necrons (one Mech one foot), 2-3 SM (one Blood Angels), one CSM 1-2 Nids, 1 Ork.
Demon Prince: Wings, MoS, Lash
10 CSM: Champ with Power Weapon, Meltagun, Missle Launcher, IoG, Rhino
10 CSM: Same as above
10 Lesser Demons
Defiler: 2 CCW
I was also thinking about swaping out the Lesser Demons and Oblit for another Demon Prince either Nurgle/Rot or Tzeentch/Doombolt and Bolt of Change. And then something with the leftover points
I would switch out the Missile Launchers and run 2x Meltaguns in your squads. Also consider splitting the 10x Lesser Daemons into (2)5x-man squads. I have used several 5x lesser daemon squads to great effect in the past to use them as a buffer or to hold objectives. If you have them I would also switch out the defiler for 2 more Oblits, the defiler at this point is a huge target that will most likely be taken out turn 1.
OK. I was worried about the Defiler dying early. Do you think I have enough troop choices?
I think I might drop the DEfiler, and lesser demons, add another oblit, and some Zerkers.
Powerfists are required in the CSM squads, they do sooo much more damage than PW:s. I usually go for two troops per 500 points in my lists, and here you have four(with the LD:s split like Dracus suggests, I use mine in a similar fashion). Meltaguns and ML:s have bad synergy. As previously suggested, take dual meltas instead. CSM thrive in the 12" range, that's where we make the most of the situations...
I'd switch out one of the CSM troops for 8 zerkers with a fist though, they pack quite a punch at this lvl, before the armies get too big to easily mitigate the damage(or just shoot them out).
win some, lose some
I was playing a game today and ran 5 Oblits, which made me realize how they cheap they are. I then realized I could run 6 Oblits and a Defiler for 600 points. Giving me the inspiration for this list:
Demon Prince, Wings, MoK
5 CSM, Meltagun, Rhino, Extra Armour, Pintle-Bolter
5 CSM, Meltagun, Rhino
Defiler 2 CCW
Drop the extra armour and the pintle bolter and take combi-flamers on both the rhinos instead. You lack anti-horde firepower, maybe also take flamers to the CSM squads. I think that at 1000 point mark, 6 oblits can deal with tanks.
You may also want to consider changing to a Lash Prince for 15 points. It will let your flamers do some real damage if you take TheNightbringers advice about them and will also put the hurt on if you start shooting the Pie Plate from the Defiler and the Plasma Cannons from the Oblits. So many uses for it!
I like the Lash Prince. So, I swapped it, dropped Armor, Meltas to Flamers, and one twin on one, one combi flamer on the other:
DP MoS Lash
5 CSM, Flamer, Rhino, Combi-Flame
5 CSM, Flamer, Rhino, Twin
Defiler, 2 CCW
