Fancied trying my hand at a Chaos army and have gone for Alpha Legion. Great fluff and under represented. Anyway comments on my initial list would be appreciated if you don't mind...
Lieutenant - Lightning Claws, Infiltrate, Daemonic Aura, Frag Grenades, Melta Bomb, MoCU
7 man squad - Infiltrate, MoCU, Melta Gun, Plasma Gun
AC w/Kai Gun, Infiltrate, MoCU
7 man squad - Bolt pistol+CCW, Infiltrate, MoCU, Frag Grenades, Furious Charge
AC - as above but bolt pistol and powerfist
Raptor 6 Man Squad 3xMelta Gun, Infiltrate, MoCU
Havoc 6 Man Squad 4xMissile Launcher, Tank Hunters
Dreadnought Plasma Cannon, Extra Armour, Smoke
Any thoughts ? Probably need to put MoCU on the Havoc's to make them stick but will need to drop something to do this as the above list is currently 1000pts.
27 figures and a Dreadnought, not many, but then I am used to playing Tyranids !!!
I like it. Your lord isn't too expensive, you have 2 solid troops choices, and good tank bustin' power. sounds good to me. There are 2 things that would do differently though, first, plasma cannons are not worth it anymore. when your enemy sees the PC he'll spread out and since the 4th edition changes you'll only get one freaking guy. the second thing is i would take the kai gun off that champion and 3 meltas off the raptors and give all the raptors cc weapons and a champion with power weapon and d. strength, or powerfist. that way they're completely ready for a first turn charge. Good list.

Thanks for the comments BigShinDig. What would you replace the PC with then, Lascannon ? More punch and bigger range, I suppose, but you still only get one guy ?
I had planned to use the Raptors as a sort of hunter-killer squad. Infiltrate close to the enemy fly in taking out expensive vehicles or well armoured/armed creatures. However this makes them an expensive sucide squad so I would need to try this and see if it was worth it. Whatever happens my opponent would have to deal with this threat very early on.
At last someone else who plays Alpha Legion. I love them. They are the only army I play.
I would think about swapping the lightning claws for the darkblade and a bolter pistol. You will still have the same number of attacks but you will be attacking at strength 6 or 7 if you take furious charge. I know demonic aura means that you can infiltrate which is cool but for an extra ten points you could be in terminator armour which gives you a 2+ armour save, 5+inv save and an extra attack and you can deep strike. In my games against anyone but the eldar I have found a chaos lord with a small retinue of termies pretty useful. They rape necrons.
Are you allowed to change your raptors weapons depending on who you are fighting? If so then against lightly armoured opponents 2 flamers and a melta, against heavily armoured opponents 2 meltas and a flamer. Even opponents in armour don't like flamers because of the number of saves the squad has to make. I also like an aspiring champion with lightning claws for the better morale and because it is useful against just about anyone.
The havocs are good. Dreadnoughts can be good if you are lucky but all vehicles these days seem vulnerable to me. I prefer to use obliterators. 2 obliterators are a similar cost to one dreadnought with pretty good firepower and deepstrike. Necrons also hate them
This is all just my humble opinion so I wish you luck.
Cry Havoc and let slip the poodles of war
Yeah, I would take the PC off the dread and give it either a lascannon or a multimelta. To be honest I would take the dread out all together and stick in a predator with autocannon and twin heavy bolters for less than your dread is now, but thats just me, I only take dreadnaughts for fun, or space marines, cuz they get them as elites. I would also, as I mentioned before, make you raptor squad a first turn assault team, not a suicide tank killing squad. As that is one expensive squad to do that with. all and all i think your list should do well.

Not too AL fluffy. Get some cultists in there. I agree with dropping the plasma get a lascannon for tank hunting. If your going to keep it that is. If not get an oblit or two. But DO NOT deepstrike them unless your using them to finish off a weak opponent. Oblits still suffer from insta death from S8 weapons. A good volley of plasma will send them back to the warp. Are you planning on facing a vehicle heavy army? Since the oblits and havocs are enough for tank hunting you might want to replace some meltas for flamers in that raptor sqd. If your going to bump it up to 1500 at some point definatley get those cultists and maybe some bikes, as well as increasing those marine sqds by at least one more member each.

Hope to expand this to 1500pts later and will definately include some cultists then, maybe some daemons too, who knows. At the moment this is just for a local tournament so I could be facing anything except Eldar (as no one has those, yet).
So no one likes Dreadnoughts eh ? What about with Mutated Hull ? But I expect that's starting to get a bit pricey.... Just finished building mine and it looks ok, so may have to field it for this reason only.
I have some Obliterators sitting in a box waiting to be painted so I may dust them off and see if I can include them instead of the Dreadnought. Dispite what I just said above.
May well rethink the Raptor idea. I loved the idea of them swooping in and vapourising my opponents vehicles. But, 'sigh', your probably all correct and they are a bit expensive and I'm not sure how many vehicles I would be likely to face in a 1000 pts game. Any experienced tournament players out there who can give me some idea ? Typically I mean, I realise this is not a science...
good list! funny how all of a sudden there are a few alpha legionaires here. =)
Raptors with 3 flamers or 3 meltas are cool. I would keep them with flamers in 1000 pts, but in 1500 pts, where there are more vehicles, then use 3 meltas and use them also to kill HQ.
I would add cultists even in 1000 pts just as meat shields. You can get a dozen for 100 pts or so, and they're great when on the charge... 7 pts each with MoCU... Str 4, Init 4 3 atks each on the charge... wow!
I personally don't find the dread to be useful or fluffy... I use Oblits and Predators as "diversionary" firepower, while everyone else infiltrates.
I usually include 6-8 Daemonettes... they're awesome.
Everything else people commented already, but consider giving your Lord D Speed... this way you're almost always guaranteed to get the charge
Ok.... Thanks for the advice everyone. Lots to think on (he says putting lovely Dreadnoughht back in its box).
May include some Cultists now (if not in 1000pts will do in 1500) what are poeple using to model these. I have seen the classic Cultists and don't think to much of them, plus in the AL fluff I have read they sound more organised ?
May post an updated list later for further comment.
