50 ish points left over to play with.
The bassy will be interchangeable with a TL las dread in games that dictate such...Eg : The board happens to be 4 feet long.
My basic strat I have in mind is setting up the Bassy and try to claim table quarters with the HB/Plas teams. The ML havoks are there to mess up tanks and what not (probably give them infilitrate)..
I'd like to be able to sit and shoot, but eventually they will have some CC and I believe the chosen fill that gap pretty nicely...2 power wepon attacks, 1 powerfist..etc. I am very aware that a pieplate would take out a decent points investment, and outside of those devs I severely lack anti-tank.
I'd like to be able to keep my CC up, but as is I believe I may instead make a squad of 5 devs with 2 las cannons, give them infiltrate and pray....
Suggestions? Currently my fears are table design (Bassy) and enemy armour..The rest can realistically be shot at.
looks pretty tight.
on smaller tables i'd go for a vindicator.
maybe throw those 50 points into some infiltrating units, 2 champs with power weapons, furious charge, change a squad to a havok with 2 less csm and more heavy weapons, more powerful lord.... just some suggestions.
Drop Daemonic Aura on the Lieutenant and with the 50 points you have left take an Obliterator. You will love it.Originally Posted by Black Katalyst
Other than that the Chosen squad is way too expensive for what it will do, you should drop it for either more Obliterators or a Dreadnougth. Also think about replacing one of the plasma gun in your "plasma gun squad" by a lascannon, that way you will have a tactical squad. 6 Space Marines in a tactical squad are more than enougth, that way you could have another squad on the board. Also give a plasma gun to your "heavy bolter" squads, that will give you that much more fire power.
Basically the Iron Warriors are a the sit down and shoot Chaos army. If you want something to help if there is some close combat then tool up your Lieutenant and don't forget to give him speed, he will be the one that will take care of anything that actually made it through the battlefield.
Dropping the chosen squad nets me a heavy support choice I believe I will take.
I was considering taking more "plain" marines and simply loading up on more havoks...
Min maxing and annoying, but it'd give me alot of stopping power...Not the ideal ofcourse. I believe my forces will be dropping the chosen, throwing in a AC/ML dread. Augments my ranged power, and is still a decent CC fighter, if it comes to it (I pray it doesn't)
The Dreadnought can hold his own in close combat even if it will be slow to kill anything, 2 power fist attacks are still good. Really consider Obliterators, those are awesome, especially in a small game. Even if you take only 2 of them they will make a difference, 3 are even better. They are heavy weapon platform that can transform themselves in good close combat machines if you equip them with a Power fists or a pair of Lightning Claws.Originally Posted by Rook
As for taking squads of 10 CSM it's not a bad idea but give them at least 2 special weapons (meltaguns are my favorite) and equip the Aspiring Champion with a power fist so this squad won't be totally useless when it will face something more powerful than infantry.
If I had to choose between a Basilisk and a Dreadnought in a 1000 pts list I would take the Dreadnought without hesitation because there won't be much infantry squad to blow up in such a small game and a blast template is not accurate enougth to guarantee that it will kill it's worth in points.
A Lieutenant with Lightning Claws, 2 CSM squads of 9 men with 2 meltaguns, 2 Havoc squads of 5 men with 3 ML, 2 Obliterators and a Dreadnought with a TL Lascannon and ML would make a powerful Iron Warrior list for 999 pts.
Again just some suggestions. I personaly like to take a Dreadnought and a Predator in my 1000 pts list, the rest is basic marines (Plague Marines in my case) with a Powerful (but cheap) Lieutenant with a lot of special weapons (no Obliterators for me as I play DeathGuard).
My issue with oblits is that they are priced at 30 dollars a blister....Quite painfully expensive. If I could find them used I'd gladly use them (Probably take 3 + a dread for my tank/nasty killing and leave the rest of the troops for mainly anti-infantry (bolter them up)
I believe I will attempt to go with the list you said, as they could be potentially my growing forces.
My former list was assembled based on what I have to use (Basically 2 hb's, 2 plas, 2ml's, 13 normal marines with bolter, 4 cc variants, 1 asp with p.fist) and as such it can get a bit difficult to come up with economically effective lists
