I have a tournament this Saturday. Just want to know what other people make of this list. My opponents will be mostly marines, with a couple of Tyranid players, possibly Eldar, Orks and Imerial Guard.
We are playing by the Conflict rules. That is, roll for one of the standard 6 missions, using infiltrate, deepstrike, victory points and dusk & dawn.
Lord of Change
Wind of Chaos
9 Thousand Sons Marines
Aspiring Champion (free upgrade)
Bolt of Change
5 Thousand Sons Marines
Aspiring Champion (Daemonhost):
Twisting Path (truth is i didn't make this work, I'm still going to toy with it though)
Warp Focus (this did help me in a practice game)
9 Screamers (+1 summoning roll)
Twin-linked Lascannons + 2 Lascannon side sponsons
The biggest problem here is that I only start with three things on the board (two of which are vehicles). This hands setting up advantage to my opponent every game, regarless of who places first.
I see my units (ideally) working along these lines:
The first Rubric squad is for taking out light vehicles with the AC and/or peppering infantry with bolter rounds. Also the powerfist can be used on I.Cs.
The second is the Daemonhost squad. I'll put them along the safest course going... Or straight towards the opponent's biggest point sink. The Screamers will hopefully arrive on the same turn as the Lord of Change and be able to charge alongside it. Will this will give my GD the support it needs (he dies alot if I leave him on his own)? They can also be used to claim an objective in the last turns.
The Pred sits back and shoots usually, though I will give up a turn of firing if it keeps it alive.

Hmmm... I would got into more depth but its late at night here. I would get more units, more guys, seriously, with more rubic marine, you might actually win the tourney. 2 wounds pwn, like having 2 squads in one. And if you are city fight, use a Defiler with Indirect Fire instead.
I feel you don't have enough troops. That's just me though. The one group of 9 is solid, if a bit too invested in the champ, but still a good group. I myself wouldn't use the Screamers - use the points to beef up the one squad.
Twisting Path is wasted on the Daemon Host. By the time you get in to 12" to use it, you're going to be wanting to unleash the Daemon anyways. It's decent against Orks and IG, but nearly wasteful on Marines. Likewise, the thralls are sorta wasted.
The first squad will never catch up to a vehicle in order to Melta bomb it. With Slow and Purposeful, you'll be lucky to even make your max 6" move, and any vehicle can outrun that.
The Predator is a solid choice - 1K Sons have horrible anti-tank options, and that'll help alot.
Truth be told, I'd be leery of playing a 1K Sons legion in this enviroment. You're guarunteed Infiltrate and Dusk and Dawn every game? That sounds like a Night Lords or Alpha Legion list waiting to happen.
I donno man, Thousand Sons are nice if you have the right list. 2 wounds (shivers) is great.
I agree with almost all of these suggestions. I'll drop one Thrall from the A.C with Twisting Path, that remaining one can be used in one go. Meltabombs are gone to, I forgot that using them is wasting the powerfist anyway.
The terrain is scarce so I'm not using the Defiler. It'll get smashed too easily, and it failed me in my last game killing only half a squad's worth of Imps, even though it survived to the end.
I would drop the Screamers for more marines, but I can't stand the idea of putting all my points into two slow-moving target units, I need these for assualt range. And they are quite effective against any of the armies that aren't marines.
Twisting Path is a one-shot thing to snatch the points. If it works. I know I shouldn't have it, but it's something different. Any ideas how to make it work more effectivly?
i dont like tanks in my thousand sons. a lascannon can kill a 150+points tank, but it can only kill one marine. i just posted a 1000 point list(although i accidentally did it in the choas forum, not the list area) and i run 6 man units with the AC with bolt of change and eye of tzeench and some thralls for some effectively twin linked BoC. 3 of these units, 9 flamers and a BoCed up lieutenant. it would light up a whole squad of marines in one turn. for nids, you can sub in a power fist or weapon and give the AC gift of change and a warp focus for fun spawn time. the deamons will devestate guard. at the very least though, i would say no tank, instead a lower priority target, like lieutenant with BoC and eye of tzeench. Thousand sons are sweet!
Yes the Thousand Sons are sweet, since my list as I've edited it now won me the tourney.
thats sweet, congrats. would you mind posting the final list on here?
