I'm trying to build a 500pt army but im having some trouble with it. this is just a "play with friends" list (they play blood angles, dark angles, orks, elder, and night lords don't know what book) here is what i got and FYI i play black legion
-Mark of Khorne
-Axe of Khorne
-Feel no Pain
-Feel no Pain
I thought about droping D. Fire and adding a Obiterator Cult (just one was what i was thinking. But if you have any ideas it would be appreciated thank you

I very highly suggest taking the Essence and D. Fire (Never worth it). I would even just go with a Lieutenant. The key here is that he is taking up way too many points to be very effective. I would also drop the armor in favor of Aura. Also, don't forget that you do have to pay for that pesky other CCW or Pistol in order to get the extra attack.
Take the points you have saved toning down your Lord and 'Zerkers and add an Obliterator and Champs with Power Fists to your squads. You'll even have some room to add another 'Zerk to each squad. I'll leave you to figure out the last 7 points. I suggest dropping the axes from one of the squads.

thank you for your repley but i am looking at the codex and it doesn't say that i can't give regular troops FNP so plz explan. sorry if i sound mean i don't know any other way to put it.
What he's trying to say, is that being a Chaos Armory item, it's only available to Independant Characters and Aspiring Champions. The only upgrades that can be bought for an entire unit of troops are those listed in it's individual listing in the codex and depending on it's mark, one or more veteran skills.
This is actually something that took me a little while to figure out too. (I'm fairly new to this ). I also got hung up on the reasoning for the two sets of point costs on other armory items. I've now learned that the first number is for independant characters (your lord, lt, etc.), while the second is for aspiring champions. Where this doesn't hold true, is in the veteran skills area where the first number is for individual units (keeping in mind that if it's a unit of troops, you want it on the entire unit) and the second is the cost for each member in a unit.
Generally, the only things that can be bought for an entire unit of troops, it either says in a special rule that it can be bought (ex. khornate chainaxes or possessed mutations) or is a veteran skill. (infiltrate, furious charge, tank hunters, etc...)
No problem, better you find out here than get to a tourney and have a judge kick you out. This game has a LOT of rules to keep track of and can be quite daunting for newcomers. I think the Armoury problem is something that all new players deal with.Originally Posted by manreaper42
Regular troops have no access to any options other than whats in their squads listing. Armoury choices are only allowed for Aspiring Champions. If you look at the listing for Chaos Space Marines under the TROOPS section and read the part for "Character." Simply put, the argument is actually the exact opposite of what you put forward: It does not say anywhere that troops can take it so they can't. However, an Aspriring Champion has access to the Armoury, including the Armoury of Khorne.
EDIT: I also don't think I made my original statement on the Lord very clear. Think about your leader's points as a percentage of the force you are fielding. Having a 140 point leader in a 500 point game a little overboard both for trying to balance your force and for just playing a friendly game.

Treesap is full of tasty wisdom and delicious nuggets of knowledge.
I'd just like to say how important his statement is with regards to a 500 point army.
I've had several really bad results playing chaos @ 500 points simply because I've put too many eggs in this HQ shaped basket.
At 500 points, you really have to be aware of who you're fighting, because there's only so much flexibility you can have.
Also, never take damonic fire, it's really not worth it.
Also also, if all else fails just field a minimum HQ with power weapon and b.pistol @ 56pts
2 minimum squads @ 140pts
And TWO defilers @ 300 points.
That's two battle cannons in a 500 point match, how dirty do you feel? heh heh. with 4 points to spare!
Actually, if you do that, no one will ever play you again in all probably. but at least you'll win eh?

Such is the fate of fielding two defilers or three wraithlords... people with gats shoot you...
Thank you for helping me under stand the rules a little better in chaos and for the list you provide me.
