i am starting a chaos army and i need a little advice for my list. this is the basic outline and i am open to added or subtracting units. here what i plan to do with everyone. the lord goes with the raptors to inflitrate behind enemy lines and take out heavy infantry. the sorcerer goes with the 10 marine squad and infiltrates to take out infantry. the 5 marine squad that infiltrates is a tank hunting squad. the obliterators, 8 and 7 marine squads, nurglings, and the 10 possessed would advance. the 7 possessed would flank the enemy. i only just got the codex and i am sure i have made mistakes. thanks for the help!
Chaos Lord: Daemon Aura, Daemonic Resilience, Daemonic Flight, Bolt Pistol, Infiltrate, Dark Blade
Chaos Sorcerer: Daemon Aura, Daemonic Strength, Daemonic Resilience, Infiltrate, Power Weapon, Bolt pistol, Mass Mutation
7 Possessed: Mark of Nurgle, Daemonic Flight, A. Champion with Daemonic Visage, Power Fist
10 Possessed: Mark of Slaanesh, Daemonic Talons, A. Champion with Daemonic Visage
10 Marine Squad: Infiltrate, 2 plasma pistols, A. Champion with Power Fist, CCW and BP
5 Marine Squad: 2 meltaguns, Infiltrate, Bolters
8 Marine Squad: Bolters
7 Marine Squad: 2 plasma pistols, CCW and BP
6 Raptors: Infiltrate, 2 plasma pistols, meltagun, A. Champion with Pair of Lightning Claws
I'll be honest. It's not a very good list. But, that's why you came to us, and we're going to help you make it into one. However, for a first time Chaos List, you didn't break any rules, which I think deserves a kudos.
The big problem I see is that you have your army arriving in waves. First you have your Infiltrators, who deserve to be in Close Combat ASAP. A turn or two later, you have your flying possessed, followed by your foot sloggers a few turns after that.Very good. Cheap, effective. I would swap out Flight for Speed. Flight may look better on paper, but Speed performs better and has the "cheaper" thing going for it.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123I have a hard time justifying the use of this one. Mass Mutation is not really a worthwhile power to buy a 150 point model for. He's decent in close combat, but the power requires him to stick with a unit, and the only real valid option for that is the Raptors, which suffer when an IC joins them. I would consider either dropping this guy, or perhaps giving him just a pair of L-Claws and no psyker powers. Or Gift of Chaos so he can start sniping the hidden Powerfists.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123Can't go wrong here.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123This is your weakest part of the army, IMO. Almost half of your points alottment invested into two units. The Nurgle ones are fair, but I stand by my assessment that if you want flying troops, then take Raptors. The Slaaneshi ones are weak. If you want Warp Scream + Daemonic Talons, take Daemonettes instead. They'll arrive in combat much faster and are much cheaper.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123Note that the Champion doesn't have any need for the CCW. Drop the Plasma Pistols for Meltaguns, and you'll have an excellent squad.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123I don't see much use for this squad. Meltaguns belong on troops with BP/CCW, not Bolters. Consider swapping them out for Plasma guns and then using the squad as a cheap harrassment unit.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123No purpose to this squad at all. Eight bolters are really nothing to worry about without something to back them up. I would drop this squad down to six men and give them 2x Plasma guns. That'll give you two cheap, throw away units that can cause serious damage with plasma, then can still act as scoring units to capture objectives.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123Up the squad size, give them a Powerfist Champion, and give them Meltas. Basically, make them like the first squad of troops. Infiltration would be helpful as well, as a CCW squad needs to close in with the enemy quickly.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123I personally find Nurglings to be useless unless fielded in very large amounts.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123Raptor squads need to be at least seven members strong, preferably eight. Plasma Pistols are not so great, as they expensive models to lose to an unlucky over heat. Give them meltas instead, as they're superior in all respects. Otherwise, fine unit. I don't see a need for an expensive Raptor unit and expensive Possessed in the same army, however.Originally Posted by blacktemplar123
