I am going to a tournament next friday, and I need help, I was going to make a DE list, but by the time my bits come, I wouldn't have enough time to paint em.
I am not used to playing 750 Point games, it is a doubles tournament, so I am making an army that can dish out some fire.
Is this HQ too much for 750? I could drop it a lot.
Daemon Prince - 166
Close Combat weapon
Mark of Undivided
I want to include 2-3 obliterators, and maybe a 8 man, 4 autocannon havoc squad.
I am not putting in any tanks, because I do not trust their survivability.
So, kabal. do you know who you will be paired with? is it a random doubles tourney, or do you have a partner?
Depending on what your partner plays, I would build a list cooperating with them.
if they are shooty, go assaulty, or vice versa.
I would steer clear of big 'ol DPs for 750 pts, its pretty pricy. but that's just my tast, I suppose you could, as long as your partner skimps on his HQ to balance it out.
Just remember that your force has to conform to force org as well, you still need to fill 2 troops choices.
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
As theyak said, it all depends on if you know who your partner is or not. If you don't I would suggest going with a balanced force that can do well with any partner. However, it seems like you know you will need a shooty list with lots of firepower, so for a doubles tournament I would be tempted to go with Alpha Legion. Cheap infiltration on all your units will be a huge tactical advantage... especially since your opponent(s) will have to coordinate their efforts to include 1/2 of the points not being on the board.
For your HQ, I would advise against a big DP. My personal favorite combination in these kinds of low point games is a Lt with Res, Speed, and a Dark blade... plus frags and BP of course. It comes in at 97 points without infiltrate, and you can even dro res if you don't think you will need it.
For your Firepower, I would include at least one squad of TH Autocannon havocs with infiltrate. This is a truly devastating unit that can perfom well in virtually every circumstance. These are a great way of adding lots of firepower and lots of survivability. As for obliterators, 2 is perfect for this level.
Now, the meat of your army should be the footslogging troops. If you want a shooty army I take it you are teaming up with an assaulty/cc army so you can skip a CC unit. If you really don't know, then I would take a cheap squad of 6 - 8 CCW+BP infiltrating marines with 1 powerfist. This will be a big deterrant to your opponents wishing to assault your havocs or obliterators.
Another tactic you might want to consider is rhino blocking. This is useful in tournaments that don't have a lot of terrain, and considering how cheap they are they can add a lot to your army just by blocking LoS to your big guns. I also find that it makes it more difficult to assault you since they have to go around it, not to mention that they will lose a turn of fire by destroying it. Actually, the rhino wall is one of my favorite tactics in team games.
If you could provide a little more information on what you will be up against or your opponents I'm sure we could all help you out a lot more. Good luck!
Thanks for all the replys.
It is a random assessment, and there is a LOT of terrain, I might do a Lieutenant with a kai gun for some fire support.
All of my opponents are randomly selected, but the majority are either 3+ saves, or 4+ saves.
Marines, Crons, 1 or 2 eldar, and maybe an ork/.
Mind giving me a link? Im searching on other sites for some 750 points list that I might be able to mod.
