So the grand tournament is coming up in June, and I want to go with my Fallen Angels army(ala AL rule set). The games are an odd 1750 points, special characters aloud. Great for me, since I use Cypher as the center piece for my theme. Here is the rough list I came up with for this. I obviously want something balanced and rounded out, seeing as it's gong to be 5 rounds, so 5 different armies. Keep in mind this is a themed army, everything but the cultists painted/modeled in preheresy Dark Angels colors. The cultists are just hireed mercenaries in my fluff. Basically Cypher musters ALL of the remaining Fallen Angels and tries to fight his way to Terra to repent.
HQ: (Fallen Chaplain) Lt, power weapon, bolt pistol, MoCU, infiltrate, furious charge, aura, mutation, spiky bits.
Elite: Cypher the Fallen angel
1 x6 terminators, x2 powerfists, x3 lightning claws, x2 RAC, MoCU, tank hunters
Troop: 2 x20 cultists, with frags, meltabombs, furious charge and infiltrate
1 x9 marines(Fallen Angels), BP/ CCW, x1 AC with PF and bolt pistol, infiltrate, move through cover (Cypher will run attached to this unit)
Heavy: Fallen dreadnaught, TLLC, CC arm
Fallen predator, lascannon turret with lascannon sponces
Fast: 1 x4 raptors, x1 AC with PF, bolt pistol, furious charge, infiltrate.
I don't know the rules for cypher but you've got way too few numbers for a horde list, not enough MEQs for a MEQ list, not enough armor for a heavilly armored list, and some very expensive termies. IMO drop the fallen death wing wannabes and probably both armor and get more bodies. Lots more bodies. Or get lots of MEQ bodies. Or daemons.
Where are the rules for Cypher btw?
Your raptor unit is pretty horrible btw. You're wasting the iniative boost from furious charge by going with a power fist, change that for a power sword and daemonic strength, and there's way too few bodies, 2 dead and you're checking moral, 3 dead and you're not capturing objectives.
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
Well unfortunately this list is theme based. By Cypher's rules (WD 280) you can include one unit of fallen marines. The theme of the army is that it's the last of the Fallen, with some hired mercenaries (cultists) making a last stand. If I put more normal marines in there, then it could get confusing as to which unit is the actual(by rules) fallen and which is a normal chaos list. In my 1850 list I have three full units of cultists, but this tourny is only 1750, soo.
I need to get some games in with this, but the though is a cultist squad runs up with the termis behind them, causing priority checks. Or the termi fallow behind the dread for LOS blockage. The ground marines run up behind a cultist squad or the predator, with cypher attached. He counts as having a powerweapon, and then the PF on the champion. I disagree on furious charge being a waiste on the raptors. Sure the fist goes last, but it goes last even with out FC. At least the other 4 will go before MEQ and have a better chance of wounding. With their hit and run they can leave and charge again. The PF is thought to be a vehicle killer. Basically everything but the cultist has something strong enough to pen armor.
Hmm, cypher leading a "counts as" alpha legion.
I don't remember whether cypher could be used in a specific legion or not.
I'll assume for a moment that he can.
But I do know that there can only be one unit of "fallen angels" with him, the rest would be normal legionaires.
The rest of the marines you could paint up as "fallen angels" and play them using the alpha rules.
As you have them now, the cultists are empty shirts.
They need a champ to make them really useful. Powerfist, daemonic strength assasins = strength 5 on the charge!
Also, I believe most GTs and RTT type events are 1850, not 1750, it seems odd that a GT would be 1750, are you sure?
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
I'm with Cal on this one.
Cultists are great.. but they shouldn't be relied on as the bulk of your force.
Always have a solid core of marines.
If it's purely a fluff army then fine.. but .. there's no way I'd just have 1 squad of marines in any level of army.
