Greetings all, this is a theory army I've been working on.
The premise is:
If I'm unlucky, I'll have S5 marines.
If I'm average, I'll get S5 I5 marines
If I'm very lucky, I'll get S6 I6 marines
I mean.. marines at S6, I6! You got to be kidding right?
Right, here it is:
Fabius Bile - 114
I've now decided not to pay more than I should for Bile.
Obliterators x 2 - 140
Marines x 8
- Infiltrate, Genetic enhancement, Furious Charge, frags
- melta gun x 2
- Aspiring champ with power weapon, daemonic strength, mutation
Enhanced marines as above:
Gave the assault marines frag grenades. Replaced Visage with mutation - they're probably safer in CC anyway.
Marines x 8
- heavy bolter, plasma gun
- aspiring champ with power fist and daemonic visage
Fire support squad as above:
Autocannon havocs - 224 points
Havocs x 8
- Missile launcher x 4
- Tank hunters, MoCU
Changed to missile launchers - the sane thing to do.
Havox squad now fixed. unfortunately, not enough points to give them more number.. but the champs are more dangerous and they have frags now.
But.. are the potentially S6 I6 2 attack marines a little beardy?
The champs would clock up a massive S7 too, so no need to give them powerfists!
All right. As normal, rip into it. Does the concept work?

Sometimes, you remind me of a much younger Caluin. One not quite so cynical, and still not fully aware of the nuances of the Chaos Codex.
This link is not for the faint of heart!
Sort of a similar set up, I think. Perhaps some of the lessons I learned in that thread could help you with yours.
As for your particular list, you're paying too much for Fabius. With the two spare points, I'd give Frag Grenades to the two Power Weapon champions.
Next, I really don't like the Fire Suppot squads. Perhaps you and Yak have more luck with them than I do, but I hate having mixed role units.
And yeah, you should already know my thoughts on the second Havoc group.
Hahahaha. Trust Cal to compliment me and insult me in the space of one post.
what was that?Good lord.. are you the same person? Well, rest assured that many of your teachings have rubbed off hmm?Melta Guns dropped for Plasma Pistols. For good this time
I'll work on the havoc squad once i've had some kind of effort at sleep and the pixies stop dancing on my desk.
With regards to the fire support squads.. i can't quite put my finger on what exactly about them I find so usefull... It just seems like, whenever i'm in a tight spot, they're always the ones to pull me through.. whether they're laying down dakka, burning some marines, or power fisting some terminators. I like the ubiqutous reliability.. and the H.bolter is so cheap i don't feel bad moving with it.
noted on frags for champs and cost for Bile.
Thanks a bundle.
Or was it dislike? Can never remember correctly. Well, I'm sure it was one of the two.
But I swear I'm always correct now.
Just when I thought I had a list finalized for my Alpha Legion you go and post something like this. This just seems like way too much fun to play. Too bad you can't figure out a way to Enhance those other two squads, but I guess they're not really meant for close combat. Are you giving them Bolters or Pistols?
Caluin, that list is pretty nice! How did it do in the long term? Did you have more luck with the 10-man squads or would five 8-man squads be better?
I've got a primarily BP/CCW equipped force with 3 Plasma Gun/Hvy. Bolter squads, 1 PP squad and an AC Havok squad (all 8-man) with Power Fist Champs for all of them. Which is the better mix for a Bile force, all CC or mixed CC and Fire Support squads?
The only alternative I might suggest would be that dropping the mixed Havok squad down to all Missle Launchers (or Autocannons) would give you the points to add Frags to your assault squads and Infiltrate to your Havok squads.

Thank you Cal and Boyd. The havocs have been fixed and little tweaks made.
obviously, bile's experiments have a propensity towards CC, so should be used primarily like that.
However, you always always need a balanced force. If you feel that you can get all your firing needs from heavy support, then maybe it's ok to go CC heavy with your troops
Interesting list Karmoon. I've tried using fabius a couple of times. In my AL, and they did okay.
The problem i had with him is that he really locks your units in to their specific roles sometimes.
Its been a while and maybe it was the way I was playing it back when. Though the crazy staff thing that fabius uses, is really broken. "tap,... aaaargh, zorch"
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
