Okay, I have decided to return to chaos and thousand sons look like fun. Im at 1832 in my points, but my goal is 1850-2000 (both of those) and I'm not sure what to add
Bolt of Change
Eye of Tzeentch
9 Sons 246 <-4 of these
-Bolt of Change
9 Possessed Sons 306
9 Flamers 93
9 Flamers 93
first advice is that rubric marines are the backbone of your army, as such you will want to field as many as you can, in that many points, 3 or 4 squads of 9 is optimal.
BTW, ahriman is worth his weight in crap, you can make a much better lord for far less points.
flamers are good (very good when used right), but they don't work as a good backbone due to lack of survivability coupled with high points cost. they are to be used in support of your rubrics.
In most chaos, the aspiring champion is there to help the troops, protect heavy and special weapons, boost CC ability, etc. but in 1000 sons, the opposite is true. the rubrics are there to be 16 wounds of mobile bolters to get through to get to the AC who IS the heavy/special weapon, and CC expert. so in short, the rubrics are there to protect the AC, not the other way around as in other legions, so don't feel bad about spending 100 points on an AC, I sometimes spend more than that.
as far as the possessed go, you would almost want to just go rubric terminators, for X points more, you get a 2 wound terminator with a power weapon that can deep strike, as opposed to 1W possessed whose only advantage is +1S.
First off, I am using 4(four of them) 9-man(nine guys including AC who is free) Rubric sqauds. And Possessed are marked, so the are 2W models. Ahriman is great, I can possibly have 10 Bolts of Chage, or any other power go off if I need to and I keep rolling 6's. I don't like spending a lot on AC's. Even if I'm Tzeentch. My AC is to add a little higher str shot to the unit, to possibly take care of a tank if need be or to jus take out one man. If need be, I'll add doombolt as well for a little more troop killing. My flamers are mainly harrassing(sp.?) units to possibly eliminate or weakon enemy units, and morale. Almost like psychological warfare .
okay, it was a little funny trying to read it the rubric part. with ahriman, if your dice like to roll lots of 6's, then go ahead and use him, just a personal preference. but you should at least put a pfist on the champs, just for when close combat comes around (and it will, trust me, I think every squad of rubrics I have ever used have gotten into combat, with the only exception being against the tau)
and squads of flamers that big have a lot of killy power, so they will also be shot at a lot, beware S6 guns and CC with them, they will die very fast to those.
I agree with Palidan777.
Looks alright, but your points for flamers are way off. The correction should fill you up to 2000+. 9 flamers is 207 points. Welcome to TS, we want to fit it all in, but we just cant. Add in a talisman of Tzeentch for those damn enemy "psykers".
Perhaps drop a unit of flamers. One is enough to reak massive havoc on 4+ armour armies (2 wounds each!!!) and one unit will do about as much as two units (aka not much) on MEQs.
I suggest taking visage off of the possessed. You want them to be locked in combat during the opponents shooting phase. Then they will finish the other dudes off in the opposing assualt phase, then free for movement your next turn.
Consider seven possessed with talons. Plenty of rending, maybe a rhino, ac not needed.
Also, at least two squads of Sons need powerfists on the ac. They have saved my butt countless times, and they are priceless.
I very much like the no vehicle approach. I see a lot of 2 defiler or three predator TS armies and I cant say I am impressed fluffwise. My army takes dreadnaughts and sometimes a rhino if I really feel like it.
Welcome back to chaos, good luck!
