After playing some game with just chaos Dwarfs I put in some hobgoblins with bows and took out the blunderbuss. The hobgoblin out shot the dwarfs hands down. BY number of hits and wounds. They will get more shoots off because of the range. I was wondering if any body else has tried the hobgoblins in differnt roles and how did they work?
always, always take tons of hobgoblins. They can have an awesome save in combat (HW, LT armor, shield) they cost next to nothing and with leadership 10, they are tough to beat. Blunderbuss units, while good on paper, don't have the range or rules to make them worthwhile. Take the minimum CD units and the rest Hobgoblins. Hobgoblins make great screens so your expensive CD don't get shot up. They provide lots of numbers and ranks. Orcs also work well, but are special. I wish they would fix the rules so you could run fast cav cheaply (5 man units instead of 10)
personally, I don't think any of them are worth putting bows on. Shield, light armor and hand weapon at the most. Take them to combat in droves.
I saw that about the basic unit and combat res but haven't tried it yet. I disagree with the stooting the range on the hobgoblin's bows 24" a basic goblin 18".
