I had an crazy idea this morning when I was going through the Tamurkan book. A Sorcerer Prophet on a Lammasu. The fun part it is a mage on a mage. But how good would this be??? have anyone used it or have I missed something vital?
I may have just overlooked it all together, and so might be wrong. But i thought the only mount option was a Winged Taurus or Great Winged Taurus. Cant remember seeing Lamasu in there. Dont get me wrong i have said i might have just overlooked it being as there was no background entry for it in the book like with the other units (with the exception of Hel Cannon). Planning on taking it as a SoM mount or somthing?
On the chance that your right and its in the options, I would have to say...i wouldnt mount my high level mage on another mage. Can you immagen misscasts, being hit with missiles, loosing both mages in one go...the list goes on. You would be best off taking it as a SoM Bound monster so you can have it flying about causing magical havok whislt keeping your Prophet nice and safe in some CD bunker unit. It also means you can risk sacrificing your lamasu in you need find yourself in a risky position, somthing you wouldnt do if you had a mage on top.
It is an option. It does not have a background entry but it is under the Sorcerer Prophets mount options. I see all th negatives and after looking a bit on the mini for the lammasu I doubt I ould squeese a dwarf onto it... But then I have the issue if I should get him a mount at all... Or bunker him as you said. I have a plan to mount a Magma Cannon after a Iron deamon and Power it out a bit in the field and then dislodge it behind some cover, send the Irondeamon of to crush some oposition or something and land the Prophet within three and and make use of his infernal Enginer special rule and use it as a lynchpin for my assult forces and as a defendable positon. Would a great Taurus be better?

Yep got home and found the entry for it.
In the way you describe using the mounted prophet, i can see the benifit of using a lamasu. Being able to fly to your Magma cannon for your IE ability in which case the Lamasu will at least be able to ause damage with spells, where as your a bit stuck with a Taurus, which is better in combat.
Are you sure you need to move your magma cannon about? it has a max range of 42" (24+possible 10 + template . in which case a bunker would be better. Have you considered taking the flying carpet? It may eat into your magic item alowance bu in the long run for what you want to use a lamasu for, its considerably cheaper.
I only play CD against gunlines like emps and dwarfs who dont move alot. In my test game against Emps the moved out Magma Cannon and the prophet who stopped all the gun hunters around probably won me the game. And the lammasu turns off the magical weapons next to the Prophet.

You might gave to look hard, but I remember back in the late 90's my mate had a chaos dwarf army and he had a Lamasu with rider as a standard model didnt need to do anything to get the rider to fit
LH: I got a nice good look at it and I now gree... Now for a rider model...
I found a pic of the exact model he had googling chaos dwarf lammasu rider
Im at work so cant post the screen shot or link as its blocked, but this model came a 1 whole model like Karl Franz on a griffon etc so no conversion needed
Oh but that model aint available So I am planning on taking the normal lammasu mini and... Oh... I havent found a mini for my prophet yet... Any suggestions?

You could just use Draz Hoath as ur prophet. FW actually reccomends this with the great Taurus. So get Draz Hoath and get a Lammassu and convert
