Now that I possess my entire Ogre army (in the painting stages right now) I've decided to jump the gun a bit and start on my Chaos Dwarfs (the army list can be found in the respective section). I know what I'm going to do to make my dwarfs, mostly, but I was just wondering what other options people have come up with. Mine are as follows:
Warriors w/ hand weapons and shields-dwarf and chaos warrior plastics with some green stuff beards. I've made a couple already and they've turned out great! The only thing I haven't decided on is the shields. I don't know if I'm going to use the plain dwarf ones or go for the marauder type, as they look a little more evil.
Warriors w/ great axes and shields-originally I planned on using the previous chaos plastic halberds, cutting them down and repositioning them so that they look right. I've made one already, and I really like it, but that box isn't available anymore! Plus, the new chaos warriors have noticably smaller hands, which are perfectly proportionate to the dwarfs. The regular dwarf hands and the old chaos hands are too big. Now I think I'll just use the new chaos warrior weapons and position them so that they're two-handed (without shortening the hafts, which I did for the other unit).
Warriors w/ blunderbusses-here's where I'm stuck. The dwarf thunderer models, with some minor conversions, would work but I don't really like some of the models. Instead I was thinking of making them like I make the other warriors but giving them plastic handguns (from empire handgunners or something) and fudging with the barrels to make them bell-shaped. Any other plans for blunderbusses out there?
Bull Centaurs-these guys are going to be fun to convert. Upper half of my chaos dwarfs stuck on a headless plastic boar that has had its fur filed off. The legs are a tad too stumpy, and the neck a bit too wide, but with liberal use of green stuff (for a belt or something) I think they'll come out fine.
Death Rockets-I don't really have any ideas about this one. The rocket could be taken from 40k but I think I'd want something more ornate for the rocket head (like a screaming face or something). I don't know what I'm going to do for the launcher.
Earthshaker Cannon-this one's easy. The spikey cannon from the ogre leadbelchers (with the hands filed off) stuck in a modified empire (or dwarf?) cannon chassis. Add on a few evil bits like spiked wheels and it's done.
Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers-goblin bolt throwers without that jaw thing on the front. Maybe make it a little bigger, I don't know yet. I'll have to take a look at it.
For my warriors w/ hand weapons i used the normal dwarf warriors and scalpted the big hats out of the Imperial Guard Chimeria Tank wheels
For a bull centaur i used a spare horse, choped of it's head and stuck a legless dwarf warrior(with my home made big hat) on it.
Bulderbuss warriors, a hard one i dont really know what to do as im not going to include these guys for a while, but you can still buy them off the UK GW online store.
My warriors with great weapons i got on ebay! The original 1980's models too!!!
I was planning to do the Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers A the goblin ones, and just add some green stuff on there heads to make those hood things.
Here's a site with good pics and advice.
By day he fought with sword and shield.....
By night he fought with pen and parchment.....
He was....The Warrior Poet.......
Fear the ANZAC Clan!!!!!
ORDER OF THE SHADOWY FLAME!!!
Do you have uber micro...????
Some people make Blunderbusses out of golf tees.
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
Yeah, I've seen some. Also seen hats made out of them but I'm not going for the big hat look. I'm most likely going to use the blunderbuss from the Empire militia box. I'll require six boxes (five guns per box) but it's all good as the militiamen will go towards the Border Princes Empire army I plan on making someday (after Wood Elves). These Chaos Dwarfs are tearing a gaping hole in my pocket.
