I've been doing some research and I want to slowly start a Chaos Dwarf army. I've checked out E-Bay and all, and I don't like the price of buying actual Chaos Dwarfs online, so I was thinking I could convert some of the new Dwarf plastics. Thoughts? Advice on how to do this would be nice too.
Pain is life, while I feel pain I still live, and while I still live I will seek vengance. We are few but strong in will
The last with pagan blood
We fought the world with burning steel
Now we sit in Hall of Gods
Well I actually think that you do not need to convert anything, you can just paint the Dwarfs black and bronze, but that's only if you don't have any time. The helmets could be extended to cover the whole face with evil slits, and the whole arm should be bare, like the Chaos Dwarfs from the hellcannon - you could use these as a model. The weapons should be converted to look nastier, you know what I mean. There's not actually that much else to do, Chaos Dwarfs are quite similar. You could check out an earlier thread in this forum about a store (by DG4). It has a couple of concept models of chaos dwarfs that are pretty good.
"Well... that hurt" - Vampire Jon Skellan (Mannfred's right hand man) after being beaten up, falling down an underground waterfall and being impaled by a stalactite.
Yeah, judging by the Hellcannon chaos dwarves the whole Assyrian theme they used to have is at least partially out. No reason at all why you shouldn't use the dwarf plastics provided you can make them look malevolent enough.
Hats!!! Don't forget the big hats!!!
If I ever get around to fantasy, I'm going chaos dwarves. That said, I don't have the funds to eBay a classic army. So, I was looking at World of Warhammer and I saw that some of the Zharr's hat's looked like the counters from the board game "Sorry." Others just looked like cyllinders, which you could probably just find. What I'm thinkin is
Dwarf+Hat+Tusks+GS=Chaos Dwarf, and for characters you could GS the curls into the beard. Far off thought for me, but I'd love to see how it looked.
And remember, arrows and lightning bolts.
Guys? I didn't ebay anything at all, and I have about 3000 points.
With regards to the Assyrian theme, many people want to keep it anyway, especially me. You should see my Hellcannon, given that I hate the idea of Chaos Dwarfs having daemon-infested war machines and looking like Chaos Gnomes.
My conversions were mostly based on the old dwarf plastics, but the conversion method can easily be used on the new ones. Just clip the helmet down to the brow and add a greenstuff hat or even a cut-down golf-tee (credit to someone who goes by the name "FatherNurgle" for the golf-tee idea). Detail isn't important: the detail on my hats is painted on. As for beards, some of my Dawi Zharr (Chaos Dwarfs, for those who don't know) have not got curly beards, but if you really want them, just hack off the beard from the dwarf model and put green stuff "sausages" on. To add detail, score lines with a sharp knife or spare metal part to look like tight curls. An alternative method I have seen is to use guitar wire to make the beards.
As for blunderbusses: there are some on the Empire militia sprue, or you could just add some greenstuff to flare the end of a thunderer's gun.
Hope these help.
