Dice do not like me. All through the testing games for my tournament army list almost every thing did its job. But when the tourney came everything went wrong. my squad of longbeards couldnt kill a lone mage. one of my cannons blew up and the other keept shooting too far and eventually got taken out by a couple of eagles. every combat i entered it seemed i had a massive advantage but a stalemate managed to occur until my enemy managed to get a cav unit into my rear. how can i make my army a little less dependant on dice?
I would say the game is only about 20% dependent on dice. The rest of it is tactics, lists etc.
So in some games you will indeed be screwed over by the dice gods (i.e. the 20%) but it happens to everyone now and then, and if you keep a sound strategy I see no reason why your luck shouldn't improve
Yes well that 20% was enough to turn the game
at the end of 6 turns there was only about 20 pts (against me) diference in a 2000 pt game
at the end of 7 there was only 70 pts (against me) difernece
the next turn i quit because a unit that had captured 3 standards fled
Second, luck is just that. If you have to roll a die enough times, it'll roll some 1's (or 6's, if you are going for leadership). So the longer you drag things out, the more likely you are to suffer some ill luck. So the biggest thing you can do to avoid it: get armies that have high expected success rates, and use them to win quickly, before you have lots of rolls and expect to start failing some.
Ultimately, there isn't anything in the game that doesn't depend on dice sometimes, so even if you have rolls which are unlikely to fail, and you only have to roll them once per game, some games they'll still fail.
-OR- better luck next time *shrugs*
Arena of Death Champion: Nexim of the Guldskullz Tribe. Fear my wrath!
yes games usually go for 6 turns but because this was a tournament we play extra turns until a winner is decided. normally it would be a draw.
Are you sure you're inthe right forum? I think this is chaos dwarves not regular stunties.
I have a friend who takes bolt throwers instead of the cannon just to avoid misfire and overshooting. I can't remember the name, but there is a rune or engineer guy that can go with one of the bolts and make it strength 7 instead of 6. That way you have to roll to hit, but you get about a 50% (or better) chance of hitting on every turn.
Post your army list and we might be able to help out a bit more.
However, that is what makes the game more fun. If you want to rely less on luck, we can't possibly help you. The warmachine comment was good, but everything rolls to some extent. Similarly, the comment about higher success rates was good, but you still have to rely on your random-number-generator-cubes. It sucks doesn't it...
unless you're the guy rolling perfect sixes:shifty:
And how often is this likely to happen? Hardly ever, hence the 20%Originally Posted by CaptainSarathai
One the things I hate about WHFB is that 3+ is the best you can hit on.. You should be able to hit on 2's if the WS difference is enough (like a lord vs a goblin or something).
Also shooting is a lot harder to hit with..
Perhaps 40k is the place for you?.. You can hit on 2's, and shooting is normally hitting on 4+ at worst.
